Ronald Koeman ridicules Man United's transfer target after dropping him from the Dutch national team

Current Netherlands national team coach Ronald Koeman has criticized Manchester United's transfer target and Bayern Leverkusen right back Jeremy Frimpong, while claiming the 22-year-old is a poor defender.

The former FC Barcelona manager has gone as far as dropping Jeremy Frimpong from the Dutch national team ahead of the upcoming Netherlands national team games.

Erik Ten Hag would have to reconsider the move for Jeremy Frimpong, as he came close to signing the right back in January before eventually allowing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to remain at the club. FootballInsider alleged that Bayern Leverkusen slapped a price tag of £50 million on the 22-year-old, but SportBible claimed that a deal would have been reached if the Red Devils were willing to part ways with £30 million.

After making an impression in the Bundesliga this year, Frimpong was selected for Louis van Gaal's Netherlands team to compete in the World Cup in Qatar.

However, the defender was not included in Koeman's roster for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Gibraltar. Koeman took over for Van Gaal as head coach of the Netherlands in January.

Koeman is worried about Frimpong's defending skills, but he can't be worried about his attacking skills. The former member of Manchester City's youth squad has already tallied seven goals and nine assists this season across all competitions.

"No Frimpong?  "This is because of the system that we play in," Koeman said when explaining his squad selection.

"He plays almost as a right winger. "My right back should be able to defend well in the first place, and I have my doubts about that."

At the beginning of March, Bild journalist Christian Falk claimed that Manchester United were close to agreeing a deal for the former Manchester City teenager, but the deal should be completed in the upcoming summer transfer window.

"Jeremie Frimpong is getting closer and closer to a United move." "Frimpong was also a topic in the winter; United really wanted him then," Falk told CaughtOffside.

"You know, he's a Dutch player, and his connection to Erik ten Hag is very close." There should have been talks.

"So, you see now that Ten Hag is performing well with his team and has good arguments for Frimpong and for United in terms of fulfilling his wish. "I think he's one of Ten Hag's main targets for the summer."
