Raphael Varane speaks passionately about Man United as he gives update on fitness

Raphael Varane calls his debut in 2021 a "great moment" and claims that Manchester United's character, philosophy, passion, and history make it a special club.

The defender later played 59 times for the Reds, and in February 2022, he scored his first goal against Brentford. One year later, under Erik ten Hag, the World Cup champion from France won his first trophy with United, starting the League Cup victory at Wembley.

He is the Dutchman's top choice, along with Lisandro Martinez, who moved here last summer. Due to injuries sustained during the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal against Sevilla, neither player has been available in recent weeks.

Varane hasn't played since April 13 because of a personal setback, and Martinez has been sidelined for the entire season with a metatarsal injury. He might play this weekend against Wolves, though.

Varane discussed United in depth during an appearance on BT Sport's "What I Wore" program prior to the match. Described as making his debut in August 2021 against Wolves.

“It was a great moment, a huge club [with] one of the best fans in the world," he stated.

“The history of the club is something special. Everything - the spirit, the philosophy, the passion around the club is something very special and different.”

Asked whether he feels pressure wearing the jersey, Varane replied: “I just feel like when I wear it, I just have to give 100 per cent of myself and to give everything on the pitch that I can. So when I wear the shirt I feel that mentality.”

This season, Raphael Varane has played 30 times for United, surpassing his total from the previous one. This year, he has contributed to 11 clean sheets, including the one against Newcastle in the League Cup final.

He will probably start the June 3 FA Cup final matchup against Manchester City if healthy.

Meanwhile, In preparation for their Premier League matchup against Wolves this weekend, Manchester United practiced at Carrington on Tuesday in the afternoon. During the practice, the players appeared to be having a great time as they picked up the pace in anticipation of the game.

Last week, United lost consecutive games to Brighton and West Ham, continuing their dismal road performance. Due to those wins, Liverpool now has a chance to catch up to United, and the pressure for the run-in has grown.

The Reds have a game in hand but are only one point ahead of Liverpool. The training images suggested there are no new injury concerns for United's league match against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

However, Ten Hag will provide a complete team news update at his pre-game press conference at Carrington on Friday. He will also be questioned about the ailments that are currently keeping Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay out of action.

Although Varane is reportedly closer to playing again than McTominay, he wasn't seen during practice on Tuesday.
