(Video) Amad Diallo scores a Worldie and 13th goal of the season as Sunderland reaches play-off

Thanks to a resounding victory over Preston North End and Millwall's shocking 4-3 loss to Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland managed to squeak into the Championship play-offs.

In a surreal conclusion to the regular season, Tony Mowbray's team kept their end of the bargain in style as spectacular second-half goals from Amad Diallo, Alex Pritchard, and Jack Clarke saw them romp to victory. The Black Cats needed all three points and other outcomes to go their way on the final day.

Coventry City secured the other spot after drawing 1-1 away at previously promoted Middlesbrough, while Millwall blew a 3-1 lead against rival contender Blackburn at home, missing out to the Black Cats by one point.

In the play-offs, Sunderland will compete against Luton Town.

A wonderful goal against Preston on Monday by Amad Diallo against the Black Cats continued his stellar play for the team.

On Monday in the Championship, Sunderland's Diallo scored the game's first goal against Preston. To make it 1-0 at Deepdale, the Manchester United loanee curled in a magnificent finish from just outside the box.

Alex Pritchard and Jack Clarke scored goals for Sunderland in the second half to extend their lead and complete a 3-0 victory. With three points, the Black Cats move up to sixth place in the standings and clinch a playoff spot.

Amad Diallo wasn't the only Manchester United's loanee who scored. Charlie Savage got on the scoresheet for Forest Green Rovers as well.

After completing his first Football League loan, Charlie Savage will return to Manchester United this summer feeling more confident.

While he was unable to prevent the team from slipping into League Two after finishing last in the third division, the youngster's time on loan at Forest Green Rovers in League One over the past few months has been a personal triumph for the 20-year-old.

He has appeared frequently, scored his first goal as a senior, and is now returning to Old Trafford for preseason in the hopes of capturing Erik ten Hag's attention. The midfielder may possibly be headed for another loan stint in the near future, but according to his dad Robbie, a former Premier League player and United teenager himself, the time spent in Gloucestershire was the ideal training ground for what lies ahead.

Writing on Twitter, Savage senior said: "Fifteen games in League One, your first senior goal, great experience. Thank you Forest Green, a fantastic club. Now back to Man United."

That was in response to the Old Trafford youngster thanking Forest Green and manager Duncan Ferguson for his spell at the club. He wrote: "My time on loan at Forest Green comes to an end today. I would like to thank Duncan Ferguson especially and all of the staff at the club for helping me so much during my time here. I would also like to thank the fans for welcoming me and for their amazing support throughout."

Savage made his United senior debut in December 2021, but despite some solid performances in exhibition games, is yet to participate in a competitive game under Erik ten Hag. In February, during Forest Green's home loss to Bristol Rovers, he scored his first goal as a senior.

His current Old Trafford contract, which he signed last summer, keeps him with the team through at least June 2025 with the possibility of an additional year's extension. The potential has received a Wales Under-21 cap.
