Man United monitoring two Premier League keepers as De Gea's replacement as Liverpool hits transfer blow

After his recent error against West Ham on Sunday night, David de Gea is in the news. It has given rise to rumors that Manchester United is keeping an eye on two goalkeeper targets.

Since he would be needed for at least five more games, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag made the decision to openly support his goalie.

Before facing Man City in the FA Cup final, the Reds have four league games left to play. To guarantee a spot in the top four of the Premier League, Ten Hag's team must win at least three of those league contests.

ESPN reports that although United is still committed to keeping De Gea for the upcoming campaign, he has not been offered any guarantees he would remain the team's starting goalkeeper.

Given that his current term is slated to expire in the summer, the Spaniard is now in negotiations to extend it at Old Trafford.

Although United has the option to start a 12-month extension, it is believed that they wish to negotiate new terms with the goalkeeper who will receive a lower income.

The article also emphasizes that De Gea has not received any guarantees that he would be the starting goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign. The recruitment squad has also created a list of potential targets, which includes Diogo Costa at Porto and David Raya at Brentford.

Much will depend on how much Ten Hag can spend in the forthcoming transfer market given that Harry Kane is the main goal this summer. If he spends the majority of his resources on other parts of the team, De Gea might have to start the following season.

Even though De Gea has recorded the most clean sheets in the Premier League thus far, he still has a lot to prove before the season is over. Some would say that he has run out of time.

TalkSPORT claims that Ten Hag wants to bring in competition for De Gea, and they suggest that fellow Spaniard Raya is one possible candidate.

More on David De Gea's future

Although David de Gea has not received any guarantees that he will be the team's starting goalkeeper for the coming season, insiders have told ESPN that Manchester United is still committed to keeping him.

De Gea is in talks to extend his contract at Old Trafford as his current agreement is set to expire in June. De Gea was at fault for West Ham's goal in United's 1-0 loss to West Ham on Sunday at the London Stadium.

ESPN claimed that club executives are eager to agree to new terms on a lengthier deal that would involve a lower basic wage but higher performance-related bonuses, United have the option of triggering an automatic one-year extension until 2024.

It's understood the 32-year-old goalie, who has played for United in 540 matches over more than a decade, has not been assured that he would be Erik ten Hag's first-choice goalkeeper next season, despite sources telling ESPN that just minor details are needed to be worked out.

With United taking a "prudent" approach to the window due in part to worries over Financial Fair Play compliance, the Dutchman will need to prioritize the parts of the team he wants to strengthen during the summer.

Ten Hag is looking for a striker, and has expressed interest in Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur. The recruitment staff has also compiled a list of goalkeepers to watch, including David Raya of Brentford and Diogo Costa of Porto.

Dean Henderson, who has spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest, is also scheduled to meet with United.

Henderson underwent surgery for a thigh issue, and while he won't play again this year, he should be healthy enough to start working out again in July. The 26-year-old English goalkeeper is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025, but clubs in the Premier League and elsewhere have shown interest in him ahead of the summer transfer season.

Ten Hag hasn't ruled out the option of starting the upcoming season with De Gea as his No. 1 goalkeeper despite doubts about the Spaniard's ability to play out from the back, especially if the majority of his transfer budget is spent on other areas of the team.

United are only one point ahead of Liverpool in the battle for the top four despite having a game in hand because to De Gea's error at West Ham, where he mishandled Said Benrahma's feeble long-range shot into his own net.

Speaking at the London Stadium on Sunday, Ten Hag revealed that despite De Gea's performance in the 3-0 loss to Sevilla last month, which caused United to lose the Europa League at the quarterfinal stage, the goalkeeper still has his support.

"He has the most clean sheets in the Premier League, so we would not be in this position without him," Ten Hag told a news conference. "So he has fully my belief, no concerns. Mistakes happen, but as a team you have to deal with it, you have to show character, be resilient and bounce back and this team will do."

Liverpool set to miss out on Napoli's star

Kim Min-jae may end up joining Erik ten Hag's Manchester United during the summer transfer window, according to reports about Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Kim, one of the top center defenders in Serie A, who now plays for Napoli.

Venerato said that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also prepared to spend heavily on the defender, who former Liverpool player Danny Murphy called "sensational" on BBC Sport in November 2022.

And it appears that United is currently prepared to make a significant offer.

The Red Devils are reportedly preparing a bid of €60 million (£52.50 million) to capture the 26-year-old during the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport.

According to the source, Napoli is also seriously considering selling the defender for that sum.

This might be a setback for Liverpool.

If Kim is willing to be sold by Napoli, they won't care where he plays as long as they earn a lot of money for him.

Therefore, Liverpool must pay the South Korean international a higher salary than Manchester United and must persuade him that Anfield is a better option than Old Trafford if they want to sign him.
