Man United's youngster Ethan Galbraith set to leave for free While Chelsea enters Romeo Lavia's race

Romeo Lavia's prospects of joining Manchester United could be disastrous because Chelsea is in negotiations to acquire the player this summer.

Lavia, according to The Independent, is a target for Red Devils as a successor for Casemiro, who turned 31 in February of this year and has demonstrated that some aspects of his game may occasionally hurt his team.

Lavia has shown in his little time at Southampton that he possesses all the qualities of a quality deep-lying midfielder, so it comes as no surprise that a team of the caliber of Manchester United is interested in him.

The Saints player, though, has a number of other suitors, including Chelsea, which Football Insider reports is in talks to buy the Belgian for roughly £45 million.

Since the Saints appear destined to drop to the Championship next season and Chelsea has a long-standing interest in Lavia and a well-documented need for a defensive midfielder, the Blues will look to benefit from what may turn out to be a star-studded exodus from St. Mary's this summer.

With Pep Guardiola reportedly impressed by Lavia's performances, a move from Chelsea for the 19-year-old this summer could be the best course of action for the Blues as they look to edge out their league rivals. Chelsea are looking to sign Lavia a year before the youngster's former club Manchester City sees their £40 million buy-back clause for him come into effect.

Man United's youngster set to leave after contract expiration

Ethan Galbraith will be allowed to depart Man United this summer when his contract expires.

This club has always given young players a chance, just like it does at Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is eager to keep repeating that idea. Alejandro Garnacho is demonstrating this, and Kobbie Mainoo will soon follow.

It's not always about success tales, though. Due to a dearth of first-team opportunities, United's young players frequently move on to other teams. Ethan Galbraith is the next to proceed in that direction.

The Reds 'decide against' exercising the one-year contract extension clause in Galbraith's current contract, according to ManchesterWorld, and the 21-year-old United midfielder is'set to leave' the club this summer.

Galbraith, who appears to have no prospect of breaking into the first team under Ten Hag, has "little chance" of fetching a respectable price, according to United.

Galbraith has played in most of Salford City's games while on loan from League Two's Salford City this season, demonstrating that he does has the necessary skills to compete at some level in the professional game. Unfortunately, that simply won't happen at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United has expressed interest in the Northern Irishman, but if he joins the Magpies, he would go on loan the following year.

Among the teams keeping an eye on his status are Derby County, Stoke City, and Sunderland.
