Man Utd hierarchy 'refusing to rule out' Greenwood return

According to SportsBible, Mason Greenwood's status at Manchester United has been updated in a recent report.

Following the publication of several pictures and videos on social media, Greenwood, 21, was detained at his residence in January amid a number of allegations against the football player.

He was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault after United quickly suspended him in the aftermath of the allegations.

Prior to all charges against Greenwood being dropped in February after crucial witnesses withdrew from the case and new information emerged during a police investigation, he was scheduled to go on trial in November.

But he continues to be suspended by United while the Premier League team looks into the striker's behavior internally.

Mason Greenwood has a contract with United through 2025, but it is unclear if he will stay at Old Trafford after the inquiry is over or if he will be sold or released.

According to The Guardian, the United team is divided on whether Greenwood should be able to continue playing for the Red Devils.

While a "significant portion of the workforce would be profoundly unhappy if Greenwood played for the club again," it is asserted that "others feel a duty of care towards the player," who has denied the allegations and has not been found guilty of any crime.

Members of United's leadership, according to TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey, "refuse to rule out Greenwood's return to the fold."

Furthermore, it is asserted that Greenwood's continued affiliation with the team may be contingent on a shift in the Glazer family's plans to sell United.

"It is believed members of Manchester United's hierarchy are refusing to rule out a return for the England international," said Bailey.

"Nobody at the club is expecting Greenwood to return to training this season, but thereafter he could yet have a future."

"A number of Greenwood's teammates believe he should be given a chance to kick-start his career next season after the police charges against him were dropped."

"One major unknown is what will happen with the possible change of ownership, as it stands the Glazers do not appear in a hurry to bring Greenwood back into the fold, but a new owner could have very different opinion."

The Athletic asserts that while the club's internal probe is ongoing, United has turned down offers for Greenwood from Turkish teams.

One of the teams thought to be keen in signing the player is Fenerbahce.
