Erik Ten Hag explains his starting lineup as he benches Wout Weghorst against Brentford

Manchester United needs to resume winning in the Premier League after dropping its previous three games against Liverpool, Southampton, and Newcastle.

This evening, the Reds will host high-flying Brentford at Old Trafford as Thomas Frank aims for an unprecedented hat-trick against United after famously winning the first encounter between the two teams in August of last year.

Wout Weghorst is one of the players who will be sitting on the bench tonight after some players were moved to the bench following United's lackluster display against Newcastle.

The forward, who joined the team in January and will likely return to Burnley at the conclusion of his season-long loan, had started each of the 19 games.

Ten Hag discussed his squad selection and the decision to bring back Jadon Sancho, who had a trying second season, in a press conference prior to kickoff.

"Jadon is in good progress,” Ten Hag told the BBC, via the official Manchester United website.

“He is creative and I think that is what we need. They can defend in the low block, really compact in that block, so we need players who can create something with the dribbles, with movements, with moments of thinking outside the box.

“So Jadon can do it [but also] Antony dos Santos, Marcus and Marcel Sabitzer as well.”

United, which earlier this week was knocked out of the Champions League spots for the first time since 2023, would move back into the top four with a win over Brentford.

Spurs have surpassed United despite being tied on points with them after their 1-1 stalemate with Everton because of their superior goal differential. Additionally, United has two games to play before the London side.
