Nicky Butt claims Mason Greenwood is as good as 13 times EPL winner and revealed Jose Mourinho wanted the attacker

Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt has stated he told Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs that Man United's attacker Mason Greenwood is the best talent the academy has produced since the left-footed wing wizard. Mason Greenwood's playing style reminds Old Trafford faithfuls of former striker Robin Van Persie but Nicky Butt claims the 21 year old's talent is closer to Ryan Giggs as a teenager.

Nicky Butt played alongside Ryan Giggs, and both were products of Manchester United's famous academy. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the treble winner stated that he once told Ryan Giggs that Mason Greenwood is the closest talent to him as a teenager.

Nicky Butt said, “I said to Ryan [Giggs] recently that Mason is the only one that I have seen who could have come anywhere near him at 17." Cos he was that good.  Ridiculous.”

Mason Greenwood made his senior team debut under Ole Solskjaer in a Champions League tie against PSG in 2019, but Nicky Butt revealed that it was Jose Mourinho who wanted to bring the two-footed attacker into the first team.

Nicky Butt oversaw the England international's development at the club's academy and spelled out how former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanted the then 15-year-old prospect in the first team.

"Jose was like, “Get him,” but I told him he was still at school and there were laws.

“We played Liverpool away in the academy." We were down 2-0 when he came on. He scored a left foot free-kick, a right foot volley, a header, and then a right foot free-kick. And you are looking at him, thinking, “How can this boy not be the next big thing?”

“Big, strong, and quick." "I don’t know where the club goes on this, but as a footballer, yeah. ”

Mason Greenwood has seen all charges against him dropped since February, and according to the Telegraph, it appears clubs are seeking to take him on loan stints, with Turkish clubs being considered favorites. He is still serving his ban while Man United is embroiled in internal investigations regarding his release.

The 21-year-old and his representative met with the club's senior officials last month, and the latest development claims he would soon face the media in a press conference alongside team manager Erik Ten Hag and his assistant Steven McClaren as part of the procedures for his potential return to the squad.

Erik Ten Hag is reportedly hell-bent on bringing the 21-year-old back to the squad, as he claims he posses huge potential. The 53-year-old has already gotten in touch with the academy graduate after his release, as he inquired about his mental and physical health in a private phone call.
