Man United faces City and Chelsea challenge in race for 19 year old Southampton mid fielder

Romeo Lavia’s father is set to meet with Manchester United this week to discuss a summer move for the Southampton midfielder, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Romeo Lavia, 19, has been a revelation with the Saints after joining them from the Red Devils' bitter rivals Manchester City for a transfer fee of £14 million in the summer of 2022, and despite just six months since his switch from the Etihad to Saint Mary's stadium, the Belgian midfielder is already attracting interest from Premier League top clubs, including his former club Manchester City.

Tribalfootball claims that Manchester United and Chelsea are seriously considering a move for the 19-year-old, while Sacha Tavolieri reported that Manchester City are strongly in the race for their former teenager due to the buyback option included in his contract.

Chelsea reportedly wants the youngster to blister their options in the middle of the park while being able to unleash Enzo Fernandez to operate higher up the pitch. Although new owner Todd Boehly has spent over £600 million on the recruitment of players, the club still needs to find a replacement for former midfielder Jorginho, who joined rival Arsenal this past winter.

Erik Ten Hag is certain to bring in fresh legs into the middle of the park in the next summer, and while there might be no heavy expenses on recruitment, the 53-year-old manager could turn to the team's academy and promote young talents into the first team.

However, a direct backup for Casemiro will be needed, as that appears to be one department in the team that needs reinforcement. While the future of Scott McTominay is up for debate as he has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, and taking into consideration the ages of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, Manchester United will be eyeing a summer move for a midfielder.

While a new striker signing is reportedly the club's priority in the next summer transfer window and Borussia Dortmund's starlet Jude Bellingham currently flirting with a potential move to the Premier League, Romeo Lavia could be a good choice for Erik Ten Hag's side if they should consider bringing in a steel into their mid field.

Romeo Lavia is having an amazing season with the saints and has made two goal contributions in 22 appearances for the St Mary's outfit this season.
