New Tottenham boss wants Harry Maguire as Brighton's demand for Moises Caicedo emerges

This summer, as competition for Moises Caicedo's services heats up, Brighton expects to want much more than £70 million.

Caicedo, one of the Premier League's most dynamic and adaptable midfielders, has drawn interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

In addition, it is believed that Liverpool may yet enter the competition, depending on the financial circumstances, even if Jurgen Klopp's squad is currently finalizing a transfer for Alexis Mac Allister, Caicedo's teammate from Brighton.

In the January transfer window, Caicedo was sought after by both Chelsea and Arsenal, with Arsenal making the highest offer of £70 million.

At the time, Brighton resisted selling the 21-year-old, but now that they have guaranteed their place in the Europa League for the upcoming season, they are ready to let him go.

Although Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham United, is their top priority in midfield, and they are also aiming to bolster their defense this summer, Arsenal is still interested in Caicedo.

By including Levi Colwill, their young center-back, in the deal, Chelsea might greatly increase their chances of winning the race for Caicedo. Brighton has made it plain that they would like to sign Colwill, 20, on a permanent basis after the 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the Amex Stadium. But Chelsea are adamant that he is not for sale.

"Brighton has a policy similar to this. I believe it is proper for them to depart."

Despite Caicedo signing a new contract in March, Brighton's head coach Roberto De Zerbi stated last month that he anticipated the midfielder will be sold.

“I think that can be the last game of Alexis and Moises, I’m really sorry,” De Zerbi said after Brighton’s trip to Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

“They are two great people and two great players. The policy of Brighton is like this. I think it’s right they can leave, can change teams and play in a level higher.”

Chelsea's pursuit of Caicedo comes while N'Golo Kante's future is up in the air. The Frenchman may depart Stamford Bridge when his contract expires at the end of the month, according to Telegraph Sport, as Chelsea will not get involved in a negotiation with Saudi Arabia for the 32-year-old.

According to sources who spoke with 90min, Tottenham Hotspur is hoping to hire a new center back during the summer transfer window, and new head coach Ange Postecoglou has given the move his approval.

Spurs had a terrible 2022–23 season, and in the dying minutes of yet another season without a trophy, head coach Antonio Conte and interim manager Cristian Stellini were fired.

Tottenham were the first team in 15 years to both score and surrender more than 60 goals in a Premier League season, and their eighth-place result was the club's lowest since 2008/09.

It seems sense that Spurs want to improve their defensive core before the 2023–24 season. According to 90 MIN, the club's transfer plans have been discussed with the incoming manager Postecoglou, who has granted his approval to recruit a new center-back.

Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, is the most notable of the three defenders Tottenham presently has on their shortlist. The England international has reportedly received offers from Serie A clubs, and if he were to quit Manchester United, 90min said that he would like to move to Italy.

Aymeric Laporte of Manchester City, who lost his spot as a consistent starter during the 2022–23 season, is also a top candidate for Spurs.

Previously, 90min stated that Tottenham and PSG had been given the opportunity to recruit the Spain international this summer; however, Aston Villa has now joined them in the running.

Tottenham continues to be interested in Max Kilman of Wolves, who has long been admired in north London.
