Manchester United to miss out on Lazio's Savic as Timber's Ajax future takes new twist

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, has been a standout midfielder for Lazio and may leave the team this summer due to interest from Manchester United, according to the club's sporting director Igli Tare.

The 28-year-old is revered as a Stadio Olimpico club legend after eight seasons in which he became a key member of the Biancocelesti's first squad.

In 339 appearances for Lazio in all competitions, Milinkovic-Savic, a box-to-box midfielder, has scored 67 goals and recorded 59 assists. This season, he has nine goals and eight assists in 45 games.

The Serbian has not yet won a Serie A championship since living in Italy, although he has won the Coppa Italia for the 2018–19 season and the Supercoppa Italia twice, in 2017 and 2019.

Prior to the start of the summer transfer window, rumors about Milinkovic-Savic's long-term future at Lazio have grown. His contract with the club expires at the conclusion of the upcoming campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Man United are also interested in the player after the Red Devils were previously linked with him a few years ago. Arsenal and Newcastle United are also said to be interested.

According to the source, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and AC Milan are rumored to be interested in the midfielder and Lazio may be open to accepting offers of up to €40 million (£34.7 million).

Serbia has given Milinkovic-Savic 41 caps, during which he has scored seven goals. He also played three times for Serbia at the 2022 World Cup.

"I will not sell Milinkovic-Savic, I will offer him a renewal. I reiterate, he is now worth €120m (£105m), and every month that passes, the price goes up," Lotito told Il Messaggero.

The Serbian is thought to be refusing to sign a new deal, despite Lazio president Claudio Lotito's declaration that he was not interested in selling him before the end of last year.

In 33 Serie A appearances this season, Milinkovic-Savic has tallied seven goals and eight assists, and Lazio is presently fourth in the standings.

Man United bolstered their midfield by adding Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer, but the Red Devils are reportedly looking to add another player to that position this offseason.

Declan Rice is still a goal, but the England international's transfer fee from West Ham United might reach £100 million. Arsenal is reportedly first in line for his services.

Manchester United as well has a transfer priority for a top class striker in the coming summer. Rumors claimed Erik Ten Hag is planning on bringing two striker signings ahead of next campaign.

Jurrien Timber in the dark regarding Ajax's future

Jurrien Timber's future at Ajax is unknown, and there are rumors that he might leave for the Premier League.

The Dutch defender, who collaborated with Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam, has been linked to Manchester United and Liverpool as potential destinations. Depending on possible departures, United might be looking to add a center back this summer.

Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof's long-term futures are in doubt, and if either were to go, United might need to add more players. Timber feels Ajax wants to keep him after speaking with them about his future. He believes there hasn't been enough clarity over whether he will be permitted to move on, though.

"I met him (Mislintat) here at De Toekomst and then we spoke briefly and one-on-one. He spoke longer with my agent. As far as I know, Ajax wants to keep me here,” he told Algemeen Dagblad.

“Beyond that, I can hardly say anything about it. Talks about that will probably follow soon. Actually, I am now in the same situation as last year. I don’t know yet whether I will make that step now. I’m happy to be at Ajax – here you can always show yourself.”

Timber has spoken about his desire to move to the Premier League previously. “A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak,” he revealed to De Telegraaf in April.

"There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax. Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract."

"As a club boy, I did that with love and after the season we will review the situation. At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday.”
