Forgotten Man United's academy graduate set for Seria A loan move in summer transfer window

Brandon Williams, a misunderstood member of Manchester United, has unexpectedly become a transfer target for Serie A team and UEFA Conference League finalists Fiorentina ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old Manchester United academy product, a regular throughout the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era, has been among those most adversely impacted by the selection of Erik ten Hag in the summer of 2022.

In reality, Daniel James contributed an assist, Juan Mata scored, and Amad Diallo, Axel Tuanzebe, and Alex Telles were all starters in the starting XI the previous time Brandon Williams played in a Premier League game, a 2-1 victory at Wolves in May 2021.

It is best to make a choice now rather than later because his contract is set to expire the following year. Williams is one of many senior players who could be sacrificed at the altar of the Financial Fair Play gods; Ten Hag is under pressure to sell before he can buy ahead of a pivotal summer. Others include Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Donny Van de Beek, Dean Henderson, and others.

Williams is reportedly considering Fiorentina as a possible destination, according to Tuttomercatoweb. According to the rumors, Williams would first extend his deal at Old Trafford before taking a loan to Italy. Also included should be an option to purchase clause with a price of about £4.5 million.

Williams, a flexible full-back who can play on both the left and right wing, might take the position of Brazilian defender Dodo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. This week, Dodo has been connected to a transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“When I do get an opportunity, I will take it,” Williams was quoted via The Mirror back in February.

“I’ll show the manager what I am capable of. It’s been a hard couple of months because I’ve been taking in so much information and learning the manager’s game plan and the way he does things. I really enjoy that and enjoy learning it, and I feel really positive.”

Almost a forgotten figure amongst Old Trafford's faithfuls. Erik Ten Hag claimed that the 22 year old's lack of playing time was down to his injury for the majority of the 2022/2023 season.

He had a bad injury. He’s on the way back,” Ten Hag explains.

“He was also in the selection for (Nottingham) Forest so he’s really a part of it. It’s also a little bit up to him but I like him, but we have to work with him and see where his developments can go. That is also about him, to find the moment where he can deserve his chance and take his chance. But when he wants a loan, we have to talk about that.”
