Mason Mount, according to David Osntein, is considering a move to Manchester United.
For the past week, Mason Mount's future has been the subject of numerous reports. The Chelsea midfielder is expected to leave this summer, with Manchester United being his top choice after other clubs expressed interest.
Liverpool, the Europa League favorites and runners-up in the Premier League, are also showing interest in Mount, but on the other hand, we shouldn't undervalue Bayern Munich's appeal.
In an interview with SkySports, Ornstein adds that Chelsea might not want to take the chance of losing the talented midfielder when his contract ends the next summer.
He continues by saying that Mount is "leaning towards" a summer transfer to Old Trafford and that there is a "high possibility" that he would leave Chelsea.
“My understanding is that Mason Mount is leaning towards Manchester United if Chelsea agree to sell him and talks are set to take place in due course,” Ornstein said.
"It seems increasingly likely he’ll be leaving. Liverpool were the early front runners but of course they aren’t going to be in the Champions League. Manchester United have always been there, Arsenal, too, would like to bring him to their club."
“But it’s Manchester United who have stepped forward as far as I know. Nothing is done, but I think that’s the direction of travel. Those other clubs have been made aware that United is Mount’s preference. It just remains to be seen if they can strike a deal club to club."
It's big news that Mason Mount is leaving Chelsea for another significant English team. It would really turn out to be one of the largest moves of the entire summer.
It seems odd that Chelsea is letting Mount slip the net given his clear popularity. There has undoubtedly been a breakdown in communication at some time.
If United wins, it will be a major victory for them.
However, Mason Mount has been advised to choose Arsenal over Manchester United and Liverpool this summer.
The Englishman's deal expires in 2024, and Chelsea might sell him this summer if he decides not to sign a new deal with the London club.

“I look at Arsenal as probably the best fit for him, because I think he can do the Xhaka role really well,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.
“Mason will always get goals, he’s got a great eye for the goal, he’s a good finisher and he will always chip in. He’s very capable of getting ten-plus goals a season, and I think he’d fit well in this Arsenal team."
“But then you’ve got four really top managers – Arteta, Tuchel, Klopp and Ten Hag- they are four of the best ten managers in world football, so it’s a really tough one."
“I would say that Arsenal feels like the most natural fit for him because of the way they play."
“He’s great in that freedom role they’ve given Xhaka this season. To not be a winger, but being a midfielder who breaks in behind defenders and gets in the 18 yard box to get goals, – that’s where mason is really, really good."
“The only thing I’ve heard is that there’s a lot more expectation on Emile Smith Rowe at Arsenal next year, so would he be challenging for that spot? He’s a real talent.”
Cascarino is also “staggered that Chelsea are “not trying to nail him down”.
“Liverpool need an attacking midfielder because they’ve lost some players at the end of the season, including Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, so they might want another one and see Mount as the guy,” Cascarino added.
“Man United have already got an attacking midfielder in Bruno Fernandes, so I’m not so sure Mason is needed there."
“The bottom-line is does he want to go abroad or play his football here, and which one excites him the most?
“It’s not about money, this is not going to be a bidding war for Mason, because of those clubs wherever he goes he’s going to get a shed load of money."
“But it just staggers me that Chelsea are not trying to nail him down. They’ve spent £600m on players and they don’t nail down one of their own? I find that really strange and how they’ve let that happen, I don’t know.”
Chelsea's interim manager Frank Lampard recently spoke regarding the possibility of the player's exit.
"Because I've worked in football and I've worked long time, I understand that many things can happen,” Lampard has said of the future of Mount.
“That does not always depend on whether you come from the academy, or Eden Hazard leaving when he was the best player in the league. He only had one year left on his contract.”
He added: “Some things happen in football, some things are just decisions that you are not privy to. But I understand the feelings of a player who has come through the club and been really pivotal. He has been Player of the Year at the club twice, and he won the Champions League at such a young age. Everyone at the club is already aware of that."
“I think it remains to be seen how the situation goes forward and I think that is probably the best time to talk about it.”
Frank Lampard is responsible for Mason Mount's transition to the Blues first team after bringing him out of the team's academy and handling him his debut.
