Dean Jones explains why United fans doesn't know Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia

During the upcoming transfer window, Erik ten Hag plans to bolster his Red Devils' center.

According to journalist Dean Jones for GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United supporters "will know barely anything" about the Old Trafford team's summer target Romeo Lavia.

Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are reportedly keen in signing Lavia during the summer transfer window.

Having sold the midfielder to Southampton for £12 million last year, the same newspaper claims that City has the option of a £40 million buy-back provision, but this doesn't go into effect until the summer of 2024.

The Belgian's services could fetch between £40m and £45m in the upcoming transfer market, according to the same source, as interested clubs try to use City's clause as leverage for a possible move.

In addition, Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Lavia, who is currently playing for Southampton, is "on the verge of greatness," as the teenager's inspirational performances seek to keep the St. Mary's outfit in the top division.

However, the journalist speculates that "a lot of fans" may not be aware of Lavia yet because they "won't look beyond their own squad and the key players in the Premier League."

"With someone like Lavia, a lot of the United fan base will barely know anything about him. A lot of fans don't look beyond their own squad and the high-profile players in the league. He doesn't hit the radar yet, but he will," Dean Jones explained to GIVEMESPORT.

Romeo Lavia, who joined Southampton this season, has made a good impact and shown maturity beyond his age of 19.

The Saints' starlet from Brussels has played in 19 Premier League games this season, scoring once from a holding midfield position. He became a fixture in the lineup at the beginning of the year after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The teen's defensive abilities are his strongest suit, as evidenced by the 1.9 tackles and one interception he has made on average in the top division this season, according to WhoScored.

According to FBref, the 5-foot-11 youngster ranks in the top 10% of midfielders across Europe's top five divisions, including the Champions League and Europa League, for blocks per 90 minutes (1.71), over the past 365 days. He also compares favorably to his positional peers in some other areas of his game.

He made Goal's top 50 2023 NXGN list, which was announced fews days ago.
Romeo Lavia might not yet be well-known, but there's no denying that he has the ability to rise to the top of the field in his profession, which will entice ten Hag to hire him.
