Former England international, Carlton Palmer advices Birmingham City about Hannibal Mejbri

It would be advantageous for both Hannibal Mejbri and Birmingham City in the Championship team for him to return to Birmingham City on another loan from Manchester United.

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer holds this opinion. The 20-year-old international from Tunisia played for the Blues on loan from United during the recently finished regular season of English football in the second division.

During that period, he started to frequently support John Eustace's side. Mejbri played 41 times in all competitions for Birmingham and only scored once, a free-kick in the win over West Bromwich Albion that was chosen as the Championship club's goal of the year. Birmingham finished the season in 17th position.

Mejbri has three appearances for the Old Trafford club and a contract with United that lasts until the summer of 2026. Where he will play his football in the 2023–24 season is still unknown.

Palmer, though, thinks the Blues should try to get the midfielder on loan once more for the upcoming campaign after a "decent" stint at St Andrew's. Palmer believes that the question now is where the player ends up on loan next season, which he feels ought to be at the Blues. The player himself has refused to rule out the idea of returning to Birmingham next season.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Hannibal has had a decent loan spell at Birmingham City from his parent club Manchester United. He has gained some valuable experience, the 20-year-old has featured in 38 games this season.

“If Birmingham City could secure his services again that would be a good move for both parties. He's obviously going to go out on loan again, so the question is where he will go on loan. The player said he is open to a move of going back to Birmingham, open to the opportunity of doing that he just wants to do pre-season and see where he is.”

Hannibal Mejbri's decision on a possible second loan stint with Birmingham City

Birmingham City has bid Hannibal Mejbri farewell, but they will be hoping to see him again.

Due to his playing style, the Manchester United loanee at Birmingham became a fan favorite.

It was obvious that they had a soft place for the United kid because they bothered their competitors and were a key component of the squad that successfully kept Birmingham in the Championship.

He was asked about coming back to Birmingham for the upcoming season in a recent interview. Mejbri didn't completely rule it out, but it seems highly unlikely.

“We will see at the end of the pre-season,” Mejbri said, as per Birmingham Mail. “Why not? You never know.”

The Tunisia international continued by acknowledging it was challenging to live in the Championship. Whether he succeeds at United or not, we hope that the experience will benefit him in the future.

“It was really hard,” the midfielder added. “The Championship is really hard. We play week in, week out. At home you have to sleep every day and eat good otherwise you get injured.

“It was a really good experience. I think I learned a lot and the fans were unbelievable with me. I have to give them everything on the pitch and that is what I tried to do.”

Mejbri is anticipated to travel with United's team to the United States later this year for a preseason tour. Erik ten Hag will decide on his future at that point
