Alvaro Fernández can help Erik Ten Hag solve defensive and transfer delimmas but will start a war

Alvaro Fernandez, a young player for Manchester United, claims he is awaiting word on his future from coach Erik ten Hag.

The Championship team's Young Player of the Season, Alvaro Fernandez, just finished a loan at Preston North End.

The Denzil Haroun Trophy, given to the reserve team player of the year at Manchester United, was won a year prior.

He expressed satisfaction with his loan decision on Preston's official website, saying: "I think I played 42 games, and I never thought it was going to be like that."

Alvaro Fernandez's initial choice is to make it into Manchester United's starting lineup. He was added to the bench by Ralf Rangnick but has not yet played.

After joining the Red Devils in 2020 and quickly moving up the ranks, the former Real Madrid academy product was loaned out last summer before having the opportunity to work with new manager Erik ten Hag.

Fernandez is confident he will get the chance to make an impression on the Dutchman and proceed from there.

He attributes his future to Ten Hag and declares that, if required, he is willing to take out another loan.

Fernandez said, “Hopefully, that is my dream now. For the next season, I have to come back in pre-season, and we’re going to see.

“Erik ten Hag has to choose if they want me there or if they don’t want me.

“If they let me go on loan again, I don’t know yet. I don’t know what’s going to be my future."

For Preston, Fernandez played left back and contributed six assists across all games.

If he leaves again, it's uncertain which direction United will take him on his subsequent loan deal. Would having another season of championship football be advantageous, or would it lead to inertia?

If at all possible, a Premier League loan would be ideal, but if not, a loan in a foreign league would be the best choice.

If Erik ten Hag decides to use him in his starting lineup, all of this might be for naught.

Alvaro Fernández to solve defensive and transfer headaches for Erik Ten Hag

Regarding Erik Ten Hag's team selection, the former Ajax boss has continued to play the duo of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as his first-choice center-back pairing. Occasionally, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof partner with the 5-foot-tall Argentine.

It appears the World Cup winner gets more game time than any other center back in Manchester United's squad due to one attribute he possesses: he is left-footed. Erik Ten Hag has always wanted a balanced defensive structure, and in Lisandro Martinez's absence, he has moved Luke Shaw into his place, and the England international has performed excellently there.

Given the circumstances surrounding the squad, Lisandro Martinez will not feature for United until preseason, while Harry Maguire appears to be demoted by Victor Lindelof, who has taken charge as a leader in the Red Devils' defense with all-round performances alongside Luke Shaw.

Man United's team captain is not likely to be at Old Trafford next season, which will leave Erik Ten Hag with just Victor Lindelof (if he decides to stay next season) and Raphael Varane, but his injury records aren't encouraging. Lisandro Martinez is surely going to reclaim his place next season, while Luke Shaw could be utilized in the center back and left back roles.

Yet still, a left-footed center back in the form of Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Inacio is in the picture, and the 21-year-old is reportedly open to joining Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag will certainly make a number of changes in the defensive department next season.

This will leave Tyler Malacia as the only outright left back available in the squad. Unexpectedly, Erik Ten Hag has mobilized Diogo Dalot to that position this season, and the Portuguese international scored his first Premier League career goal while playing in that position.

You can bet Alvaro Fernández will surely want more tastes of first team and regular football; he is among the few players who have made impacts during their various loan stints. Six assists and three goals will surely make Erik Ten Hag turn his head and consider him in his dominating attacking playing style.

Especially if Harry Maguire hits the road and no signing is made, although this is highly unlikely with a player like Goncalo Inacio available. Luke Shaw could act as a rotary partner for Lisandro Martinez, while Alvaro Fernández will be forced to fight for a starting berth with Tyler Malacia.

This could see another Wan Bissaka and Diogo Dalot's right-back battle replica at the left-back position next campaign.
