Erik Ten Hag told to take advantage of Fulham's interest in Fred to snap up Joao Palhinha next summer

This summer, Manchester United is prepared to bid Brazil player Fred farewell after hearing from a reliable source that negotiations regarding a shock transfer to Fulham had started.

The 30-year-old joined Old Trafford in the summer of 2018 after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk for £47 million. At the time, it appeared as though Fred would move to Manchester City, but Jose Mourinho's last-minute intervention led him to choose Old Trafford.

Fred originally agreed to a four-year contract with a potential 12-month extension, and United moved to prolong his stay until the summer of 2024 back in December. Fred has appeared in 212 games in all competitions over that period, making him a dependable member of the team.

And even though the superstar may have just had his best United jersey season, it appears his time at the organization is about to end.

In fact, Teamtalk exclusively disclosed earlier this month that the club were open to proposals for the Brazilian despite the fact that he has just one year left on his contract. The Manchester Evening News reports that brokers are in negotiations on a potential transfer to Fulham, so it appears that the exit is getting closer.

Back in the Premier League, the Cottagers had a fantastic season, finishing an outstanding 10th. And one of their summer 2022 acquisitions, Joao Palhinha, who had a standout season, was the driving force behind their top-half finish.

But it appears that Fulham will have a difficult time keeping the Portugal star. And with a £50m valuation, a number of well-known bidders are apparently considering storming Fulham.

It appears that Fred is now being considered by the Cottagers as a possible replacement. And if Andreas Pereira moves to Craven Cottage, he might cross paths with the former United player.

According to the MEN, United manager Erik Ten Hag would rather sell Fred than Scott McTominay, another outstanding midfielder. Due to a decrease in playing time this season, the latter has been linked with a move to Newcastle. The paper indicates that Ten Hag, who is four years older than the other player at 30 years old, sees more logic in selling Fred.

At the conclusion of Sunday's game at Old Trafford, the Brazilian midfielder could be seen engaged in a lengthy talk with Marco Silva. The likelihood of a transfer to the Cottage now appears to be increasing.

Even though Fred has given some of his best performances this season while playing for United, he has only started 22 games, which is the fewest since his first season with the team in 2018–19.

Though he started the Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle, his best performances came in the victories over Manchester City and Barcelona.

Even though he has only started two games after the humiliating 7-0 loss at Anfield, Ten Hag is thinking about calling him back as a tactical change for the FA Cup final.

According to rumours, that will be the player's last match wearing a United jersey because he was sacrificed to help collect transfer funds.

He might end up being the first of many players to go this summer, along with Alex Telles, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, and Brandon Williams.

Fred scored 12 goals for United and was on the Brazil team in the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar.

Adrien Rabiot of Juventus is one prospective midfielder whom Ten Hag is interested in signing this summer. However, Erik Ten Hag could make a swap deal with Fred for Joao Palhinha from the Cottagers. The 27-year-old will take the burden off Casemiro, and he is a player with Champions League experience from his playing days at Sporting CP.

Although a lack of transfer funds could see Erik Ten Hag look at other options in the summer transfer window,
