David Moyes receives triple injury boosts amid virus hit in West Ham camp as Gernacho set to return on Sunday

Prior to this weekend's visit from Manchester United, David Moyes is still concerned about the health of a number of first team players.

Moyes was absent players like Declan Rice, Nayef Aguerd, and Tomas Soucek on Wednesday night for the 3-0 loss against Manchester City. All of these players were reportedly suffering from food sickness or a virus.

Additionally, the manager acknowledged that he is still concerned about the health of numerous first team regulars ahead of Sunday night's match against the Red Devils.

They [the players affected] have been in today, so today was the first day we’ve had chance to assess them," Moyes told the media during his pre-match press conference. "They’ve done a little bit of training, so I’m hoping that they will all be available for the weekend.

"But we’ve got a couple of other people who have [illness]. One other player was sent home this morning and we’ve got another who just said he didn’t feel so good. We’ve just got to hope that we can contain it.

"We don’t know if it’s just something we’ve picked up, but it looks as if it’s just sickness. The players are getting over it pretty quickly."

And with regards to the availability of Kurt Zouma, who it was initially feared could miss the rest of the season, Moyes added: "We’re not going to give a sort of timeline on Kurt because we know he is a boy who does improve very quickly.

"But he’s also got an ankle injury, so we’ve not really got a date for it."

Vladimir Coufal, a defender from the Czech Republic, is also expected to miss this weekend's game for David Moyes due to a hamstring injury he sustained during Wednesday's game at The Etihad.

Manchester United's team news

Erik ten Hag is hoping to have one key player back, but Manchester United will likely have a same lineup against West Ham United on Sunday as they did against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday.

After suffering a major ankle injury during March's 0-0 draw with Southampton, Alejandro Garnacho, who last week signed a new long-term contract with the team, has missed United's last 12 games across all competitions.

The 18-year-old, who has enjoyed his breakout season at Old Trafford, has been missed by the Reds' wingers because of his electrifying presence.

In slightly more than 1,000 minutes of senior play in 2022–23, Garnacho has four goals and five assists. Earlier in the season, he scored the game-winning goal against West Ham in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round.

Ten Hag says it depends on how Garnacho does in practice, but he didn't completely rule out the possibility of our no. 49 playing this weekend.

“No, I think it will be the same squad,” Ten Hag initially replied, when asked if he had any team news before our visit to the London Stadium. “Maybe one player [to add]: Garnacho. I have to see.

“Maybe he can be involved but we will have to see how the progress can go.”

Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay were disqualified from the trip to east London earlier this week, but Ten Hag claimed Varane is farther advanced in his recovery and may return later this month.

Varane had an injury during the April 2-2 draw with Sevilla, and McTominay hasn't played since opening the score five days earlier against Everton.

Even if Donny van de Beek's recovery effort is doing well, Lisandro Martinez is out for the entire season due to a fractured metatarsal.
