Erik Ten Hag confident of Anthony Martial's goalscoring form as West Ham monitors Wan Bissaka's situation

Erik ten Hag believes Anthony Martial will play a significant role in the remainder of Manchester United's season once he returns to full health.

After a two-month injury layoff, Martial has played as a substitute in each of the Reds' previous three matches, and he finished the most recent of those on Saturday by scoring the second goal against Everton.

After being forced off, Rashford's continued return to health will give the Reds a much-needed lift as their schedule fills up quickly. Ten Hag is awaiting an update on his injury. The Frenchman scored his eighth goal in 15 outings for Everton with 20 minutes remaining. He has scored more goals against them than any other team.

The boss told Canal+: “We know what he can contribute to this team. Every time he is available, he has a big impact on the games.

“He can score goals. He is clinical and, also, he can keep the ball and can make the attacking game better for us.

“He improves the attacking game; also out of possession, he is important for us because he is clever. He knows how to start the pressure. So we are happy he is back.”

Ten Hag was questioned about Anthony Martial's goal-scoring history in the press conference following the game. Ten Hag has scored seven goals so far this season in the Europa League, EFL Cup, and Premier League.

“I’m not worried that Martial will not score,” he told reporters. “You are really emphasising the Premier League, but I think Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the cup are also Premier League opponents."

“In the cup they are even more on the front foot and more ambitious to win the games because that is often the path to quick success. It’s often that those games are even more intense.

“But yeah, when he’s fit he’ll contribute, no doubt – we have seen it already when he is on the pitch. He makes a difference to the team – see the Man City and Liverpool games. Now we have to keep him fit and he has to keep himself fit and then he will contribute and he can be clinical.”

Ten Hag added on MUTV: "We have to be careful because we have so games to play and also the short notice, so he needs the recovery every time."

“Then he can go forward and be fit and fresh in the game, which is what you need to score the goals but also do the work in and out of possession.”

Elsewhere regarding Manchester United's right back position. According to Sportsmole, West Ham United is apparently keeping an eye on Manchester United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka with the intention of making a summer transfer for the right-back.

Under Erik ten Hag, Wan-Bissaka has had difficulty getting regular playing time, with Diogo Dalot being the go-to option on the right side of defense.

Dalot has been sidelined since the World Cup due to injury, while Wan-Bissaka has lately started four of Man United's last six games after returning to the lineup more frequently.

Wan-Bissaka would fall further down the pecking order if United were to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, who has been widely linked with the Red Devils.

In the event that the Hammers avoid Premier League relegation this year, according to Football Insider, they will look to sign the 25-year-old.

According to sources cited by Football Insider, West Ham is keeping an eye on Man United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in preparation for a possible summer transfer. The 25-year-old right-back has long been a target for the Hammers, who are prepared to make an offer should they avoid relegation this year.

Wan-Bissaka has dropped down the Old Trafford pecking order as Diogo Dalot now poses a serious threat to Erik ten Hag's team for the starting right-back spot. Football Insider sources said on Friday that Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen is a target for Manchester United, who are also looking to add another right-back to their roster.

Wan-Bissaka's time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end with the arrival of Frimpong, and West Ham and Crystal Palace are keeping an eye on the issue. After selling Wan-Bissaka to United for £50 million in 2019, Palace is eager to get him back to Selhurst Park.
