Anthony Martial out to settle score against Sevilla as United announces Marcus Rashford's injury update

Anthony Martial, a forward for Manchester United, will face Sevilla, his previous loan team, this week.

The timing of Anthony Martial's return to fitness is perfect for Manchester United, but Sevilla, his old loan team, will be fuming.

Martial is anticipated to play a significant role in United's Europa League quarterfinal first-leg match against Sevilla because Marcus Rashford is likely to be injured.

It is a switch of roles and an opportunity for Anthony Martial to refute his critics. With Cristiano Ronaldo starting up front for Manchester United, Anthony Martial lobbied for a loan out in January 2022 since he saw no hope of getting regular playing time there.

With much excitement, he came in Sevilla to a video greeting from his hero, Brazilian Ronaldo.

Sevilla hoped to be able to lure Martial away permanently at the end of the season, thus this was done to help him feel at home.

There was little desire to keep Martial by the end of the campaign. His stint at Sevilla was marred by three different ailments, which prevented him from scoring, playing the full 90 minutes, and finishing games. The Spanish press ripped into him after his season ended in May of last year. He was rated as "beyond disappointing" by Estadio Deportivo.

It is obvious that his name will not be recorded in the club's history, the publication continued, adding that Sevilla spent a total of £5 million on the loan arrangement. It's best that he refrains because if he does, it will be under the name of one of the biggest blunders in the LaLiga winter market.

Separately, newspaper AS called Martial's decision a "disaster."

Anthony Martial has undoubtedly become accustomed to ignoring criticism by this point, but it could benefit Manchester United if he did take some of the criticism in Spain personally. This week, he ought to be more motivated to make a point. But naturally, talent has rarely been questioned. He must maintain his fitness for 90 minutes.

Manchester United releases Marcus Rashford's injury update

As a result of his injury, Marcus Rashford will "Miss a few games," according to his club, Manchester United. Prior to Erik ten Hag's press conference this afternoon, the club announced the news on Wednesday morning.

On Sunday, while United was defeating Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford, Rashford hobbled off the field and It seemed to be groin-related.

The statement on manutd.com read:

“Marcus Rashford will be unavailable for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final game against Sevilla because of a muscle injury.

“Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in.

“The England international’s absence is a disappointment given his red-hot form this season, with 28 goals in all competitions.

“But there will also be relief about the prospect of his return for important games in the final weeks of the season.”

When it comes to groin injuries, the fact that the ailment is classified as a "muscle" injury rather than a tendon damage should signal a quicker recovery time, with three weeks being a reasonable goal.

It is a bitter blow for United, who are still engaged in conflict despite having previously claimed the EFL Cup. With 28 goals and 10 assists in 47 appearances this season, Rashford has been in superb form.

The good news is that Anthony Martial has fully recovered from his own injury and now offers an additional attacking option. Alejandro Garnacho, a left wing specialist who is also hurt and sidelined for a few weeks, is also injured.
