22 year old's representative meets with Premier League giants over summer transfer amid David De Gea's contract saga

Giorgi Mamardashvili's representatives visited England last week in order to discuss a prospective transfer with Man United and other organizations.

It is now widely known that Manchester United might make a goalkeeping acquisition this summer. David de Gea is a true jewel for the Old Trafford club, but there are some concerns regarding his stylistic fit.

The Spaniard isn't the best when playing out from the back, despite being an absolutely magnificent shot-stopper. Erik ten Hag wants to put that into action.

It is uncertain whether United will keep De Gea or change course and sign a replacement. There is no question that adding a new employee would be viewed as a risk. Keepers like David Raya of Brentford have been mentioned in connection with a move to Old Trafford. Giorgi Mamardashvili has recently been added to the list of possible candidates.

It is 90min.com making the assertion. They said that the 22-year-old's representative visited England last week to "speak" about a potential transfer with United and other Premier League clubs.

Among the other teams displaying interest in the Georgian are Chelsea, Tottenham, and most significantly, Leicester. The Valencia goalkeeper has drawn interest from across Europe with a string of outstanding performances in La Liga.

This is a fascinating situation because Valencia won't obstruct the player, who is 'eager to depart' this summer. Around £30 million should be enough to close a deal, however Valencia would demand more if they were compelled to sell to another La Liga team.

In a perfect world, United could sign Mamardashvili and let him fill in for De Gea for a year or two before taking over as the team's starting goalkeeper permanently. I have a feeling that wouldn't make the Georgian man happy. He presumably expects consistent schedules right away.

David De Gea confident of penning a new deal

David de Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, has made it clear that he wants to sign a new contract after his present one expires at the end of the current campaign.

De Gea signed a new four-year contract in 2019 for almost £375,000 per week, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League. His compensation is still substantial even with the contractual wage reduction brought on by the club's inability to make the Champions League this season.

There is a 12-month option in the current agreement that may make the terms last until 2024. However, reports previously stated, United is not thinking about exercising the option since they want any future contracts to have significantly lowered terms.

Regardless of whether a deal is signed or not, De Gea and United still get along well. The Spaniard has been at United for almost 12 years and has developed from a 20-year-old raw talent into a 32-year-old seasoned pro.

Although the continuing takeover process has prevented things from being finalized, as has also been the case with Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, 90min understands that United are ultimately optimistic of negotiating a new contract with De Gea on reduced terms.

De Gea's most recent remarks reveal his wish to maintain good relations and imply a want to remain. “I’ve been here many, many years, enjoying every moment in this club and playing many games. It’s great to be here…massive club. I love the club and I’m really happy here,” he told Sky Sports.

“It has been the same over the years, a lot of noise about everything in this club. But the players focus on games, especially the one on Sunday [against Newcastle at St James’ Park] because it’s a massive game for us to finish in the top four."

“We have to really care about training, recovering well [and] the other team. That’s more important than contracts or anything.”

United are preparing for the long term and would still like to get another goalkeeper even if De Gea decides to extend his stay at Old Trafford. The team has its sights set on Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who 90min recently reported may be available this summer because the Portuguese club needs to fund €50 million before it can make a squad investment.

David Raya of Brentford, who has surpassed De Gea in the Spanish national team's pecking order and been selected for the 2022 World Cup, is also attracting interest from United.
