Man United's staff makes Harry Maguire and Guardiola claim amid Newcastle United's interest

According to a recent story, a member of the Manchester United staff believes Harry Maguire would have thrived at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

The most expensive defender in the world, Maguire moved to United from Leicester City in the summer of 2019 for a reported £80 million.

After Ashley Young left the club in January 2020, he was named club captain. During his first season at the club, he participated in every minute of the Premier League season. In the ensuing 2020–21 season, when he led United to a second-place finish in the top division, Maguire was equally impressive.

One of the reasons Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team lost to Villarreal on penalties in the 2021 Europa League final was his absence from the game.

Nevertheless, after performing admirably at the international level in Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, the England international has battled with form at the club level since then.

Manchester City's interest in the defender before he moved to United has reappeared since Erik ten Hag's plans for him beyond this season are uncertain.

And according to Red Devils staff, he could have succeeded under Guardiola. One unnamed member of staff at Old Trafford reportedly shared their perspective on Maguire's time there and how much different things might have turned out had he joined the blue side of Manchester instead.

The report reads: "One former member of staff on the football side at United concludes that Maguire was a good player in a dysfunctional environment, who he believes would have thrived at City with the stability and tactical acumen of Guardiola."

In November 2019, Guardiola acknowledged that City was interested in Maguire but was unable to match United's offer.

He explained (quotes via Sky Sports): "Maguire is an excellent, top-class player. We were interested, but we could not afford it. United afford it.

"He's an excellent player, national team too, he had an incredible World Cup.

"He's so strong in the air, good with the ball, the build-up, he drives with the ball, he's fast, so fast. He has all the qualities. Congratulations to United for this signature."

According to sources close to the player, he wants to stay at Old Trafford and strive to regain his starting spot, which he held during Solskjaer's time in charge. .

Harry Maguire, has chosen his plans for the upcoming campaign.

Although the England defender has been linked to a summer transfer abroad, Maguire wants to stay with United, according to The Athletic.

Harry Maguire made the decision despite being aware that he won't always start for manager Erik ten Hag.

The international for England has only started seven of his 13 Premier League games this year. The remaining time left on Maguire's contract are two years.

Newcastle United wants Harry Maguire

Journalist Alex Crook claims that Newcastle United is interested in luring Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to St. James' Park this summer.

Newcastle United and West Ham United are rumored to be among the early frontrunners for the signing of Harry Maguire, according to TEAMtalk, who will be made available for transfer by Manchester United this summer.

The English international, according to 90min, is garnering interest from a number of prestigious Serie A teams, with Inter Milan, Juventus, and AC Milan eager to provide loan deals with an option to buy.

The Old Trafford giants are rumored to have a number of first-team players they may release in the off-season, including the 30-year-old, but doing so would require the "right circumstances."

Although they might need to be "flexible" to guarantee they meet their Financial Fair Play responsibilities, Manchester United would like to collect a transfer fee for Maguire's services.

According to Transfermarkt, Maguire has played 28 times for the Red Devils across all competitions this season despite being in and out of Erik ten Hag's lineup.

Crook said: "Yeah, I think so. It's a question of what sort of money they're going to get for Maguire. He needs to go and play.

"I know there's some interest from Newcastle, West Ham as well.

I think, probably, they would be good moves for him. I think it's best for all concerned that he moves on."

The 30-year-old has also demonstrated a combative disposition to win possession back for his team with a tackle success rate of 71% in the English top flight this season.

However, after four years at Old Trafford, it might be time for the £190,000-per-week defender, who was signed from Leicester City for £80 million back in 2019, to look for a new challenge.

The England international may be a seasoned defensive mind to assist direct Newcastle United's backline in 2023/24, when the Magpies appear to be in a solid position to qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, With his season-long performance, David De Gea has generated conflicting reactions, and Mike Maignan is a target for Manchester United.

On his best days, David de Gea is a world-class shot-blocker. His distribution abilities, though, need a lot of work. According to a report from Ben Jacobs, Manchester United is apparently looking at other goalkeepers. The 27-year-old Mike Maignan of AC Milan is supposedly on their list of transfer targets.

The French goalkeeper has firmly established himself as one of the greatest in the world, and he has excelled in both the Champions League and Serie A. Maignan will be trying to lead AC Milan to European success after helping them go to the UEFA Champions League semifinals after more than a decade.

"Jacobs told Caught Offside, “Mike Maignan is not expected to leave Milan and is healthily contracted even if he doesn’t agree to new terms, but that’s another goalkeeper Erik ten Hag rates.”

The 27-year-old has also cemented his position as his nation's top goalkeeper. The French international would unquestionably be a step up from De Gea.

The Spaniard's current deal with Manchester United expires in the summer, and he has not yet agreed to a renewal. Whether the Red Devils are willing to extend his stay at Old Trafford or sign a capable substitute with a better ceiling remains to be seen.

Dean Henderson is also a player for Manchester United. But it's anticipated that the English goalie would leave in the summer in pursuit of a regular playing role. Henderson has shown promise throughout his recent loan assignments, but at this point in his career, he needs to play frequently.

Without a doubt, David De Gea could still play a key role for Manchester United, and the club would gain from his continued presence. His winning background and leadership abilities may be extremely useful to the Manchester United team.

It's unclear whether the Red Devils will be able to persuade AC Milan to sell the star goalkeeper, despite manager Erik ten Hag allegedly having high regard for Maignan. He has a long-term contract with the Italian team, thus Milan is quite unlikely to approve his departure anytime soon.
