Tony Mowbray recieves plaudits from former Sunderland's defender for Amad Diallo's form

Tony Mowbray has received compliments from Sunderland's former player Alan Stubbs for assisting Amad Diallo in regaining his confidence. When Manchester United paid an initial £25 million for an unidentified 18-year-old in 2019, questions were asked.

Amad Diallo has only made three Premier League starts at Old Trafford, so opportunities have been hard to come by. Rangers were the team that first offered him the opportunity to play regular first-team football as a loan move beckoned.

During the last few months of the previous season, the Ivorian scored three goals in ten appearances but failed to have a significant effect at Ibrox. The Red Devils loaned him out a second time after a disappointing six months.

In this case, Sunderland benefited because Amad made a big impression in the Championship. The 20-year-old has become more accustomed to the demands of English football thanks to nine goals for a mid-table team.

Amad's future is now in doubt due to amount of talents available to Erik ten Hag at Man United, and despite having a standout season on Wearside, it is unlikely that his prospects of making the first team have improved. Former Sunderland defender Stubbs, who spent five years at Rangers' fiercest foes Celtic, gave Mowbray credit for reviving the winger's form after a lackluster stay in Scotland.

"Amad Diallo has been terrific for Tony and I think he’s been getting the best out of him," Stubbs told Grosvenor Sport. "He didn’t have a good time at Rangers. Sometimes a player just doesn’t fit or settle."

"It can be even harder for a winger because he is in and out of the game but Tony has given him the confidence to go and do his stuff. I don’t know what his attitude was like at Rangers but he flitted in and out of the team."

"Now he is showing his qualities on a consistent basis and it will be interesting to see what happens when he goes back to Manchester United in the summer," Alan Stubb's explained.

Amad Diallo's future will be decided at the end of the season, however he looks like he will help Erik Ten Hag shape up his transfer plans ahead of the next summer transfer window.
