Sporting CP priorities Goncalo Inacio's contract renewal amid Man United and Newcastle interests

Despite interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United, Sporting CP is prioritizing a new deal for defender Goncalo Inacio, according to Record.

One of the top promising center backs in Portuguese football, the 21-year-old has been closely monitored by United for the past 18 months.

The defender's current contract with Sporting expires in June 2025, but Sporting hopes to extend it for an additional year while also raising his €45 million release option. According to reports, Man United and Newcastle United are the top suitors for Goncalo Inacio.

Since Lisandro Martinez is the only left-footed central defender on the team right now, Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag might prefer to have another choice to add depth and rivalry.

Inacio, in our view, would be a great signing. This term, the Portuguese has successfully finished an impressive 90% of his passes. He has made two saves per game and won over four duels.

The young player has drawn attention as well for his powerful physical presence in the box and aggressive tackling. He is a left-footed center-back who enjoys having the ball at his feet, just like Martinez.

Goncalo Inacio may be released for his clause if he is not persuaded to sign a renewal agreement at this time. Newcastle is also rumored to be interested, but it's doubtful they'll sign him this summer.

The 21 year old has previously declined a transfer to St James' Park and would instead like to sign with a "top European club." If he is willing to compete for a spot, United should be the favorites to sign him.
