Manchester United may not sign €70 million Napoli star Kim Min Jae during next summer transfer window

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof's prospects at Manchester United are in doubt after this season's drop in the standings and lack of playing time.

It should come as no surprise that Erik ten Hag has been linked to a move for Kim Min-jae given United's need to strengthen their defensive alternatives.

Il Mattino reports that United may be able to acquire the SSC Napoli defender for €55-€70 million (£48.5m-£61.7m) this summer. United is anticipated to make a move for him.

Although it's unlikely that the Red Devils would make a move in order to make space for the 26-year-old, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof aren't likely to be offloaded.

Kim Min-jae transferred from Fenerbahce to Napoli last summer and has since made 35 appearances across all categories, contributing to one goal and two assists.

The South Korean international has been a fixture in Naples, where he helped his new team extend its lead at the summit of Serie A to 19 points. However, his future is up in the air.

Less than a year after joining Gli Azzurri, United allegedly wants to sign the tenacious center-back, so they'll have to spend lavishly to catch Napoli's eye. However, the Red Devils are already overstocked at the defense with Maguire, Lindelof, Lisandro Martnez, Raphael Varane, Phil Jones, and Teden Mengi.

Given that Martinez and Varane play defense regularly, Kim Min Jae will likely not forfeit regular action of game times with the Seria A outfit for a second fiddle spot under Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire still serves a purpose under Ten Hag, having played in every FA Cup encounter and their most recent Europa League match.

Even though Victor Lindelof hasn't seen much action lately, he's still appeared in two of their last three FA Cup games and made an appearance off the bench in their prior Europa League victory.

Ten Hag is obviously content with the pair as backup, so he won't likely attempt to offload both of them in one transfer window in order to make room for a crucial acquisition with a high asking price.
