Man United allegedly monitoring Rasmus Hojlund and Kolo Muani as hunt for number 9 continues

Should they be charged out of a deal for Harry Kane, Manchester United is keeping an eye on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani and Atalanta goal scorer Rasmus Hojlund.

Harry Kane, the star striker for Tottenham, is the United manager Erik ten Hag's top target, according to The Manchester Evening News, but any approach could take a while because Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has traditionally been hesitant to do business with domestic rivals.

The 24-year-old Muani, a France international, has played in both of France's recent victories over the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland in European Championship qualifying. Muani has scored 16 goals in 35 appearances for Eintracht this season.

Kolo Muani joined Eintracht just last year, and given that he has a contract that runs through 2027, his resale worth is particularly high. The Bundesliga's sixth-place team is Eintracht.

Rasmus Hojlund, 20, also changed clubs last year and scored three goals on his complete international debut for Denmark last week against Finland. In the unexpected 3-2 loss to Kazakhstan that Denmark suffered on Sunday, Hojlund added two more goals.

Since his €17 million transfer from Sturm Graz in August, the Dane has scored eight goals, and Atalanta has a history of producing great talent. On transfer deadline day in October 2020, United acquired Amad Diallo for a sum that would eventually reach £37 million from the sixth-placed Serie A outfit.

Similar to Kolo Muani, Rasmus Hojlund is contracted to his club until 2027. According to sources at United, at least four prestigious European teams, including Chelsea and Bayern Munich, are expected to be in the market for a top striker this summer.

United is still interested in Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen, and Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus and Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos are both favorites of Ten Hag.

Ten Hag stated at the beginning of the season that he would like to acquire English players, but United's inability to make the Champions League hampered their ability to target players with a certain profile.

"I would like to sign English players because I think there is only one criteria and that's quality in combination with the price," Ten Hag explained at the time. "It looks like English players are quite expensive. It's a fact you cannot deny. In the end, it's about quality."

Although Anthony Martial, United's present No. 9, has only appeared in 14 of their 46 games this season while Marcus Rashford has hit a career-high of 27 goals, Bruno Fernandes, who has 10 goals, is the club's next-highest scorer.

The 27-year-old Martial has 14 goals in his last three seasons but hasn't played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League since January 2021. Next year, when his contract expires, United have the choice of renewing it for another year.
