'Just give him the ball'- Sunderland's Tony Mowbray draws Amad and Bruno Fernandes comparison

Sunderland AFC's manager Tony Mowbray has praised Manchester United's loanee Amad Diallo for how he has drastically improved his performance on the pitch.

Amad Diallo has been Scrutinized for being too soft for the life in the Premier League, he was sent on a loan stint with the black cats in the English Championship with Sunderland under the management of Tony Mowbray.

Amad Diallo has emerged as an important figure for Tony Mowbray's side, as he has recorded nine goals and three assists since he arrived at Sunderland. Tony Mowbray details how he has evolved his game and has compared him to Manchester United's talisman, Bruno Fernandes.

"He can play wide, he can play inside, he can play deep," Mowbray told MUTV. "I think he can play center midfield for us in the Championship, you know."

"Just give him the ball, and he very rarely loses it." Yet we generally put [Patrick] Roberts really wide and play Amad just inside him."

"We've had huge success down the right-hand side of the pitch with those two linking and playing with each other, people running off the back of the two of them and sliding people in.  It's very profitable for us. He is versatile," Tony Mowbray explained.

"I see United games, I watch a lot of football, and Bruno [Fernandes] plays a bit of everywhere, off the right sometimes, inside as a 10 or as a running 8, he can play deep and link the midfield up.  Amad is a similar type of footballer," Tony Mowbray added.

In a recent interview with MUTV, Amad Diallo underlined his plans for the rest of the season and also his target regarding fighting for a place on Erik Ten Hag's side next season.

"My objective here (in Scotland) at the start of the season was to score 10 goals. "Now I want to score more goals," he explained.

"But I have another objective, which is to take this team into the Premier League, because I know it will be difficult, but I always tell myself nothing is impossible."

"The club has a big history.  "It was in the Premier League before, and I hope it goes to the Premier League next season."

"The staff, the club, and the players all have a lot of confidence in me, and I do my best on the pitch to repay the confidence from the club," he told Man United.com.

The 20-year-old has had a productive year at the Stadium of Light, where he has played in 29 Championship games and scored nine goals.

In their first season back in England's second division, his performances have helped the Black Cats climb to 11th in the Championship table and have sparked talk of a possible promotion challenge.

They are only seven points out of the play-off positions, and Diallo has said the Tyneside team is capable of making it to the Premier League.
