"it's the biggest Premier League game in Portugal"- Bruno Fernandes makes huge claim about Liverpool fixture

Portuguese international and Manchester United's midfielder Bruno Fernandes has claimed that Manchester United's fixture against archrival Liverpool is billed as the biggest Premier League game back in his home country of Portugal.

The former Sporting Lisbon captain, who joined in the winter of 2020, understands a lot about football rivalries given his time with Sporting Lisbon, which shares a tense rivalry with Benfica and Porto in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. He is 28 years old, and he and his teammates will be heading to Anfield with expectations of keeping the sensational form alive.

“Yeah, obviously in Portugal, it’s probably the biggest game that they see in the Premier League," Bruno Fernandes told the club's media.

"I think everyone knows the worldwide importance of this game." I think one or two years ago, when we played them, it was one of the games with the most streaming viewers on television. "I remember that."

"We know how important it is also for our fan base, and we are with them because it’s really important for us." Whatever is important for the club and for the fans is important in the same way for us. "We want to win that game, but as David said, it’s really important for us to understand that these kinds of games are really special, but they don’t give us more than three points," Bruno Fernandes explained.

So intense is the historical rivalry between the two Premier League giants that the extent of their rivalry speaks volumes even when it comes to success on and off the pitch. The Merseysiders leads the Manchester based club in overall numbers of trophies won (67) while the Red Devils are closely behind them with (66), The reCent Carabao Cup success means the Red Devils are topping the Anfield outfit in terms of the number of domestic British cups won, Manchester United are 20 times Premier League Champions while Liverpool have been crowned 19 times.  Although the Merseysiders boast more Champions League trophies compared to the Red Devils, the Manchester club is more successful in terms of their commercial adventures.

Bruno Fernandes stated that it's an important game for the fans and hinted that they will ensure they leave Anfield with all three points on Sunday.

"As I said, we know how important these kinds of games are for our fanbase, and as important as it is for them, it is for us in the same way, because we want to give them as much joy as we can, as much happiness as we can."

"Happiness and joy come from winning games, so winning at Anfield is something we know will mean a lot to our fan base." "We will do everything that we can to get the three points in that game," Bruno Fernandes asserted.

David De Gea, who has been at the club since 2011, knows how important the fixture is and stressed that it would be a difficult game for the Red Devils on Sunday.

"It’s always a special game to play at Anfield against Liverpool," David De Gea told ManUtd.com.

"It’s always nice." But again, I think it’s just three points, the same as in other games. It’s going to be a tough game, for sure. "Playing at Anfield is always very difficult, but we have confidence, and we’ll take that confidence to the next games, go game-by-game, and we can see another big game on Sunday.”

Manchester United won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in August, which was the very first game they won as they started their resurgence this season. David De Gea, however, has set his sights on winning the match on the Merseysiders' turf to keep the traveling fans happy.

"Yeah, it was a great game." "I think we played really, really well and controlled the game."

We didn’t concede many chances. Playing at home is great, and the fans against Liverpool made it a special day. "Let's try it; of course [this time] it’s at Anfield; we don’t play at Old Trafford, but it’s a nice place to go and play your football and enjoy it."

"The away fans are always amazing, and it’s a good time to play them, so let’s go with everything and try to win the game," David De Gea explained.

The Red Devils will be heading to Anfield on the back of a 3-1 win over West Ham in the Emirates FA Cup on Wednesday, and they will be looking to secure their first win at the Merseyside club's base in seven years.
