Manchester United's loanee Amad Diallo missed Sunderland's 1-0 win over Norwich City over the weekend in the English Championship League due to injury, but the black cats' manager Tom Mowbray has indicated that the 20-year-old's injury was a minor one and is expected to be back next weekend.
With eight goals to his name in about 20 championship games for Sunderland this season and two Player of the Month Awards to his name, Tom Mowbray believes the young Ivorian should be mentioned amongst the best EFL Championship players this season before dismissing any seriousness regarding his hamstring injury, which made him miss the matchday squad last weekend.
While Tom Mowbray's Sunderland AFC will play again next Wednesday against Sheffield United before anticipating another Championship clash with Luton Town on Sunday, the black cats' manager is optimistic that the young winger will be fit for the Championship side's weekend game.
"Diallo has been amazing for us. "One of the best, if not the best, footballers in this league," said the Sunderland manager, speaking to Sky Sports.
"Amad is such an important footballer. I've spoken to Amad. He had a scan. There's no injury; there's no tear; there's no damage. "The hamstring looks perfect."
"He's a lad who has never played three consecutive 90-minute halves, and he's played 32 of them or something like that." "His body is telling him."
"He's cramping up, his hamstrings are tight; we need to give him a rest, take him off the grass for a few days, let him have a swim, give him a massage, and give him a rubdown." "In a week's time, I think he'll be out there flying again and finish the season strong for us," he explained.
Tom Mowbray has been a huge fan of the former Atalanta teenager since his arrival at the Championship side, and Amad Diallo has been sending signals back to Old Trafford with his outstanding performances so far.
Amad Diallo joined United from Italian side Atalanta in 2021 and is under contract until 2025 at Old Trafford with the option of a further year. He's made 20 league starts for Sunderland this term and has appeared nine times in total for United since his arrival.
