"He was happy"- Erik Ten Hag reveals Sir Alex Ferguson's reaction to Man United's winning the Carabao Cup

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has revealed that the Red Devils' legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was happy with his former team ending their six-year trophy drought but has urged them to add more silverware to the club's trophy cabinet.

Erik Ten Hag stated that Sir Alex Ferguson was thrilled to see the players lift their first silverware under the Dutchman and was happier that they ended their trophy drought.

"I think he was happy with the performance!" Erik Ten Hag stated after he was asked about the great Scot's reaction to the team's recent success in the Carabao Cup.

"He was happy that Manchester United is winning [again], and he is hoping that more wins and more trophies are coming in."

The former and retired Man United's manager has been frequent at Man United's games, even away from Old Trafford. He was in the crowd when Erik Ten Hag's side played FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp stadium in the Europa League and was present when they eliminated the Spanish giants at Old Trafford.

He was also a delightful spectator at Wembley when the Red Devils won 2-0 to lift the Carabao Cup last weekend, lifting their first trophy since 2017. He will as well be traveling to Anfield to watch the team play and will be hoping his former side breaks their seven-year Anfield jinx.

Although retired, Sir Alex Ferguson is a member of the club's board and frequents the Carrington training center. Erik Ten Hag was quizzed on whether the legendary Scot's presence was having any negative impacts on the team and if it was unnerving to have the former manager watching him closely.

"No, I enjoy it," Erik Ten Hag replied.

"It’s inspiring to have a big, inspirational man like him, a personality who wins everything."

"So he knows what winning is; he knows the culture of winning." "And as a sound port, to talk with him about that, to learn, but also for the players, it’s inspiring, I think, to have him around," Erik Ten Hag explained.

It appears both men have a special relationship as they were both spotted on the night Liverpool were humilated by Real Madrid in the Champions League. The duo were pictured in deep conversation over dinner at a restaurant in Wilmslow. Erik Ten Hag refused to share the details of their meeting but admitted they discussed their pile-up fixture schedule.

"I keep that for me!" he stated, before adding, "We have so many matches coming up, and you discuss them."

Manchester United will play at Anfield on Sunday evening in the Premier League; they will be hoping they continue their good run and keep their top-four hopes alive. Meanwhile, a trip to Real Betis' home turf in Spain awaits them on Thursday night for their Europa League round of 16 clash.
