Mason Greenwood, who hasn't played football since January 2022, is anxious to get back into the game. Mason Greenwood's transfer request was allegedly turned down by Manchester United.
The 21-year-old had attempted rape and assault charges against him dropped last month, but he still has to go through a club investigation, which will determine whether he can rejoin the squad.
Several Turkish organizations have expressed interest in Greenwood, but according to The Athletic, United has rejected their attempts. Additionally, it is asserted that the striker on suspension "would run through a brick wall to be back playing for Man United now." Since Man United's 1-0 victory over West Ham on January 22, 2022, at Old Trafford, Mason Greenwood has not made an appearance for the club.
He was subsequently detained and charged with attempted rape, assault resulting in real bodily injury, and using coercive or controlling behavior in October. The Crown Prosecution Service later withdrew crucial witnesses and new evidence as reasons for dropping those charges.
They also mentioned changes that meant conviction was "no longer a realistic prospect."
While this internal investigation is continuing, Greenwood, who has a £70,000 per week contract with United until 2025 with the option of an additional year, won't resume training or playing.
The club issued a succinct statement in which it stated: "Manchester United notes the Crown Prosecution Service's decision that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped."
"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is said to have called Greenwood to check on his health and well-being and to express his satisfaction that the charges against him had been withdrawn. The Times reports that the team is divided over Greenwood's potential comeback.
Some team members are reportedly worried about his comeback, as is the case with the women's team, while others have no issues with Greenwood's welcome return.
In other news; Alejandro Garnacho is expected to sign a new, massive contract at Old Trafford worth ten times his present salary.
It's thought that negotiations for a new contract started in December, just a few months after Alejandro Garnacho won the FA Youth Cup and during his breakthrough season for the club.
The Sun reports that United insiders believe the 18 year old will sign a contract shortly once the fine print regarding image rights is resolved. The current contract for Alejandro Garnacho at United ends in 2024, however, United has the option to extend it for another year if they so choose.
The young winger has five goals in 29 games this season despite his present injury. Impressive for a teenager. Man United must make Garnacho's new contract one of their top objectives right now.
