Erik Ten Hag laid out punishment for Anfield loss just as Luke Shaw predicted.

It all fell to shambles at Anfield on Sunday as Erik Ten Hag couldn't help from the sidelines while his side got battered 7-0 by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

A trio of braces from Mohammed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nez ensured Manchester United were condemned to their heaviest defeat in a competitive game since 1932. And also Liverpool's biggest win in their history against the Red Devils.

Erik Ten Hag wasn't the happiest person after the game, as he slammed his side's display in his postmatch interview. He admitted that his team was unprofessional and didn't show the winning mentality that they have portrayed this season.

"You can lose a game, but not in the way we lost in the second half," he told MUTV after the game.

"In the first half, we played very decent." We created the better chances and then made an organizational mistake. The second half was unprofessional. "It can’t happen, and we have to talk about it."

"I do think we played decently in the first half, but the second half was not us." not our standards. "We didn't play as a team."

"Yes, definitely, and surprised." I have seen, over the last few weeks and months, a team that is really in a winning attitude. "In the second half, we did not have a winning attitude at all," he stated.

Manchester United's left back Luke Shaw during his interview stated that Erik Ten Hag's next line of action will be another torment as the manager will force the players to watch the highlights of their loss to their archrivals.

"We need to realize that [the game] won’t define our campaign. That’s what we’re having, a big debrief tomorrow [Monday] about the game, about what went wrong,” he told Man United.com.

“We need to keep the belief, keep the character, and bring back the personality and mentality that we know we have but lost today," he explained.

"I feel embarrassed for the fans and the people who were watching for us. I can only apologise."

"It's not going to be easy watching this back. But he [Ten Hag] is going to make us watch it back, and show us what we need to learn from this embarrassment."

Apparently Erik Ten Hag made all the United players come into Carrington early this morning. Reports from the Carrington training center claimed the Dutch tactician arrived two hours earlier than the players.  Erik ten Hag forced his Manchester United players to sit in silence and listen to Liverpool’s players celebrate their 7-0 win. That's one hell of a punishment.

He laid into his players, telling them they were lucky to be returning back to Manchester on the team bus and not made to travel back with the fuming fans who had paid money and travelled to watch such a pitiful display.

The boss also warned them that if anything like that [Liverpool defeat] happens again, there won’t be another chance for them and they’ll be put in the Under-21s.”

Erik Ten Hag has however looked on the brighter side and believes his players will bounce back from the defeat while claiming they have good characters.

"I said in the dressing room that their performance was not acceptable; it was clear." "But it's only one game, though a big defeat, and unacceptable, especially for our fans, especially against Liverpool," he said.

"We will bounce back." This team is strong enough to go, reset itself, and bounce back. "I know my players; they have good characters, and they can bounce back, which they will do."

Luke Shaw has also stated that the players will be looking to bring back the good vibes when they play Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday, but he has admitted that the squad's standards have dropped since the Carabao Cup's success.

"It was completely unacceptable." "Our standards have clearly dropped since we won that trophy [the Carabao Cup] and, in the last couple of games, we haven’t been our normal selves—we need to find the good things we were doing before and bring them back, because this hurts a lot and it’s really unacceptable what we did in that second half," Luke Shaw stated.

“We showed no personality and no mentality." "For a big team to come here, we need to do better.”

"Starting now, we need to make amends, starting with the game on Thursday—hopefully, they will be there to support us, and we’ll give everything in that game," he said.

Attention will be turned to the Red Devils' game against Real Betis in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday.
