Manchester United, along with Premier League rival Chelsea, are reportedly showing interest in Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
The Swiss international has caught the attention of the two Premier League giants with his spectacular saves this campaign for Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Sport1, Manchester United and Chelsea are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping departments and are both showing interest in the 25-year-old, whose contract runs until 2026.
“Kobel’s performances have aroused desires,” explains Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger. He continued to reveal: “Especially at Manchester United and Chelsea. "We have now found out that before the BVB game in London, there was a meeting with an advisor from Kobel’s agency and with people from Chelsea who are very interested.”
FootballnewsGermany alleged that the 25-year-old has no release clause in his deal, which expired in 2026, and Borussia Dortmund could be tempted to sanction their number one shotstopper if either Chelsea or Manchester United could come up with a hefty transfer fee. FootballnewsGermany also believes Gregor Kobel wants to spend one more year at Signal Iduna Park.
Gregor Kobel traveled with Borussia Dortmund for their second leg of their round of 16 tie with Chelsea but didn't participate due to injury, which was a precaution taken by the German club to avoid aggravating his condition. He was also absent from the Bundesliga Revierderby, which saw Borussia Dortmund settle for a 2-2 stalemate with Schalke 04 over the weekend.
He is expected to return when the Signal Iduna Park outfit plays against FC Koln this weekend.
Manchester United have been rumored to be in a hunt for a new No. 1 as David De Gea's future appears to be up for debate. He is currently in talks with the club for a new contract; his current one expires in a number of months, but Man United could still trigger the one-year extension clause in the 32-year-old's contract.
FC Porto's Diogo Costa and Brentford's David Raya are all linked with a move to Old Trafford as Erik Ten Hag wants a ball-playing goalkeeper at the club next campaign.
