Erik Ten Hag has expressed how 18-year-old Alejandro Gernacho has forced the club to alter their transfer plans with his mesmerizing performances this season.
Alejandro Garnacho's outstanding achievements this year have compelled Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, to change the club's transfer policy. The important member of the FA Youth Cup-winning Argentine Under-20 team from the previous season offers mobility on the left wing and consistently puts defenders in danger with his attacking runs.
During his press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the manager was questioned about his hunt for a new midfielder in the summer. He responded that he was always thinking about the future while also realizing that things can change quickly in football.
"I think our summer plans—we have an idea on the long term," he told the club's media. "You will also look two-to-three windows ahead, and so we have that long-term plan."
"But also, you have to revisit that plan every time because of developments." For instance, who could have expected this development with Garnacho? "And so this changes your approach to the window."
The 18-year-old has taken his first team opportunity by storm. He has been influential and helping Erik Ten Hag's side win games. He came off the bench to help end games against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup when Manchester United were struggling at 2-2. He made two assists as United won the tie 4-2.
He ensured Man United went into the World Cup break on a high note after coming off the bench to score a late winner against Fulham in a Premier League match. He is yet to score since after the World Cup; however, he is making up for that with his assists, including the decisive moment that gave Manchester United their Manchester derby victory in January.
Perhaps Erik ten Hag is implying with this statement that Manchester United was seeking to add a winger or attacker to their roster but may now be shifting their attention to other targets, especially given Rashford's form, Garnacho's development, and Jadon Sancho's comeback.
Anthony Martial's continued injury problems this season have made a center forward United's top priority. Although Harry Kane has been mentioned, Spurs will make every effort to keep their club's all-time leading scorer.
The manager was further questioned about his general perspective on the club. The media referred to his statement in which he stated he prefers clubs that have stability with managers.
Generally, managers appear to only last for a few years when they are appointed to a certain club, and the media were curious if Erik Ten Hag has plans to move on from Manchester United in the future or play an important role in the rebuilding process.
"I don't think about it," he replied.
"I always think about the long term. In every club where I was, I have been thinking about long-term work to build a culture, to build a way of playing, to develop the players and the team obviously," he explained.
"I think in the long term obviously in contracts and in windows, because I think that is the [right] way," he continued.
"Thinking about the long term and acting in the long way, I stay with many clubs for a long time compared to nowadays." I am not here for one year; I am here longer. I see it as a long-term project. "To build here and how long it is, you can't see, I can't tell," he added.
According to MEN, Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United are prepared to cash in on several first-team players to raise funds for the club's transfer plans ahead of the next summer transfer window. The players involved include club captain Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, and more.
The Red Devils are also seeking a permanent striker, with Napoli's in-form striker Victor Oshimen and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane on their radar.
