Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has urged his teammates to focus on each game and not get carried away by Manchester United's competition on all fronts in all competitions available to them this season.
The Red Devils are anticipating a Carabao Cup final showdown with Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium towards the end of February, but the Portuguese international is focused on picking up the necessary 3 points when they face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Two weeks ago, Bruno Fernandes and his teammates had to share points with Crystal Palace when they traveled to Selhurst Park. The number eight gave Manchester United the lead before halftime; however, their failure to add more goals and seal off the game means Crystal Palace punished them through Michael Olise's late free kick.
Ahead of the Saturday afternoon clash, Erik Ten Hag has urged his players not to let their guards down when they play the Eagles. He made reference to the disappointing draw and asserted his players were to blame for the draw.
"We had a bad performance there." I wasn't happy with our performance. It was 90 percent focus and energy, and we dropped two points. "We need to play a better game tomorrow," Erik Ten Hag told the club's media during his press conference.
Bruno Fernandes was asked about the manager's comments, and he replied, “The message at the moment is about looking at Crystal Palace, because it will be a pretty tough game."
“We have no time to rest; we have no time to disconnect, because we know how tough it is to play in the Premier League."
“We know how tough it is to play in the Carabao, the FA Cup, and the Europa League—against Barcelona too."
“We have to focus on Crystal Palace because we didn’t get the result we wanted at their home, so it’s now about us to do the best we can."
Bruno Fernandes also hailed the arrival of Marcel Sabitzer and underlined the qualities the Austrian will add to the team in the absence of Christian Eriksen. The player recalled playing against the 28-year-old while he was still plying his trade with RB Leipzig.
Under Ole Solskjaer's management, the two clubs played together in the Champions League group stage of the 2020–2021 campaign. Manchester United won 5-0 at Old Trafford but lost 3-2 at the Red Bull Stadium with Marcel Sabitzer among the goal scorers for RB Leipzig.
"Yeah, my memories of that [Leipzig away game] are not good, as they put us out of the Champions League, but he's a good player, a really good midfielder,” Bruno told reporters after Wednesday's win over Nottingham Forest.
“He can shoot from outside the box; he can score great goals,” added Fernandes, continuing his assessment.
“He'll give us more options in the midfield while Christian [Eriksen] is injured." "He's another one who'll make it difficult for everyone in the team to have a place."
“We know it costs a lot to have a place in the team, and we have another one fighting for that position, so we all have to give our best." "That includes everyone who started in midfield [on Wednesday]—me, Casemiro, and Fred," Bruno explained.
“We're really happy to have him; we think he can help us." "I think he's fully fit; he's been playing, so hopefully he'll help us a lot,"
