Manchester United's Europa League round of 16 opponent, Real Betis, are set to be without their key player, Nabil Fekir, when they play next month.
The playmaker is set to miss both ties of the Round of 16 in the Europa League next month. According to the statement released by the La Liga side, the former Olympique Lyonnais man has torn his ACL and could miss the rest of the season.
The statement read: “The tests he has undergone by the Real Betis Balompié medical services have confirmed that he has an anterior cruciate ligament injury in said knee."
“The player will have to undergo surgery in the next few days to resolve this injury, the prognosis of which implies that he will miss the remainder of the season.”
The 29-year-old has played 19 times for Real Betis this season, with 16 of them being starts. He has registered five goals and provided two assists during those appearances.
He was instrumental as they drew Barcelona 2-2 at the Nou Camp stadium earlier this year. The French international played the whole 90 minutes of action against Elche over the weekend before his injury was announced on Monday evening.
The two sides will meet in a two-legged tie next month as they vie for a quarterfinal spot. Manchester United have successfully eliminated Barcelona from the round of 32 to set up a date with Real Betis.
The La Liga side will travel to Old Trafford next week for the first leg of the tie before the Red Devils visit them in Spain for the return leg.
Manchester United are still competing on three fronts for trophies; they are still in the FA Cup and Europa League tournaments, while there is a possible title charge as they are in third place on the Premier League table with Arsenal at the top leading with less than 12 points.
