Manchester United won't be appealing Casemiro's three-match punishment for the red card he received during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, according to Erik ten Hag.
In the 70th minute the clash against the Eagles, referee Andre Marriner gave the Brazilian the boot.
Players from both teams converged near the touchline following Jeffrey Schlupp's foul on Antony, and following a pitchside VAR review, Marriner determined that Casemiro had engaged in violent conduct during an incident involving Palace midfielder Will Hughes.
The Brazilian will now miss Leeds United's home and away Premier League games this week, as well as Leicester City's visit on Sunday, February 19. United successfully finished the game without the Brazilian, despite Schlupp's goal that cut the deficit in half.
Casemiro may still participate in the first leg of the Europa League play-off in Barcelona on Thursday despite the suspension (16 February).
Prior the Old Trafford game against Leeds United on Tuesday, Ten Hag was questioned about the possibility of the club trying to get the suspension lifted.
“Consider? Yeah,” Erik admitted, before explaining why an appeal had not been launched.
“Still, for me, it's not the right decision [to send Casemiro off] but I don't think we have a chance in a legal process," he explained.
Casemiro might pave the way for Marcel Sabitzer to make his full United debut by joining the injured Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, and Donny van de Beek on the sidelines.
Ten Hag praised the Austrian for his game sense and poise on the ball when he came on for the final 20 minutes of the win versus Palace.
With Anthony Martial still out and Antony unavailable for this match, Man United are now missing two players from their assault. Erik Ten Hag downplayed the potential effects of those players' absences on upcoming contests by expressing his confidence in the caliber of his team.
"I'm the manager, I always have to play with the players who are available,” he said.
“We have a squad, we have many good players available in that squad, who are not always in the starting XI. So, others [will] get the chance and I have to do it.
“After the game, I can't say Casemiro is not there, Anthony Martial is not there, no, we have to win."
“This squad, all players in [it], are Man United capable, so they have to perform tomorrow and we have to win the games no matter who is coming on the pitch.”
