Sofyan Amrabat fuels transfer rumors as Aston Villa enters Harry Maguire's race

According to a recent rumor, Aston Villa is eager to lure Harry Maguire away from Manchester United this summer.

As the sixth center defender in the manager Erik ten Hag's pecking order, Maguire appears destined to leave Old Trafford.

All indications are that the England player will leave, despite rumors in The Athletic that he is willing to stick around and compete for a spot.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, stated this morning that clubs expressed interest in January, but Erik ten Hag declined at the time.

“Still, the feeling now is that the best solution is for him to leave this summer."

“There will be a meeting next week, but the idea is for Maguire to leave the club.”

And, according to Football Insider, Aston Villa is getting ready to enter the race for the 30-year-old's services.

A "'huge' spree" is reportedly planned, and according to "sources" at the Midlands club, they have "concrete interest" in him. With a seventh-place Premier League finish and a qualification for Europe, Villa are clearly on the rise.

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, the club's owners, have witnessed significant improvement under new manager Unai Emery and are not short of cash.

The Financial Times (FI) states that "[Maguire's] wages, reported to be more than £170,000-a-week, will probably pose less of a hurdle for Villa than their two rivals [Spurs and West Ham]."

The publication also indicated that the Villans tried to sign Maguire in January, supporting Romano's earlier remarks.

Since another recent report indicated that the London club wants Maguire in part to help convince his friend and United target Harry Kane to stay at the club, moving Maguire to Villa Park may be a better choice for United than selling him to Spurs.

According to sources who spoke with 90min, Tottenham Hotspur is hoping to hire a new center back during the summer transfer window, and new head coach Ange Postecoglou has given the move his approval.

Spurs had a terrible 2022–23 season, and in the dying minutes of yet another season without a trophy, head coach Antonio Conte and interim manager Cristian Stellini were fired.

Tottenham were the first team in 15 years to both score and surrender more than 60 goals in a Premier League season, and their eighth-place result was the club's lowest since 2008/09.

It seems sense that Spurs want to improve their defensive core before the 2023–24 season. According to 90 MIN, the club's transfer plans have been discussed with the incoming manager Postecoglou, who has granted his approval to recruit a new center-back.

Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, is the most notable of the three defenders Tottenham presently has on their shortlist. The England international has reportedly received offers from Serie A clubs, and if he were to quit Manchester United, 90min said that he would like to move to Italy.

Aymeric Laporte of Manchester City, who lost his spot as a consistent starter during the 2022–23 season, is also a top candidate for Spurs.

Previously, 90min stated that Tottenham and PSG had been given the opportunity to recruit the Spain international this summer; however, Aston Villa has now joined them in the running.

Tottenham continues to be interested in Max Kilman of Wolves, who has long been admired in north London.

Fiorentina star fuels transfer speculations

Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina made his name known to football fans worldwide by giving a strong showing for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.

Amrabat was rumored to be going on loan to Manchester United in January, but Fiorentina swiftly rejected the idea in the middle of the campaign (via MEN).

The Moroccan midfielder has now fueled rumors that he would be moving to a premier English team this summer, saying that "playing in the Premier League would be nice."

Amrabat will compete with fellow United target Declan Rice in tonight's Europa Conference League final match against West Ham in England.

Speaking ahead of the final, the 26-year-old said (via Daily Mail): “Of course, the Premier League is a fantastic league, one of the strongest in the world.

“it would be nice to play there one day, but it’s not that I want only to go to England, because Spain is nice, Serie A is a nice league.

“Football has changed a lot, it’s more physical, you have more to be an athlete, the tempo and intensity is higher.

“Of course, in England the intensity is very high, so I think it would suit me.”

West Ham vs. Fiorentina will begin at 8 o'clock in Prague on Thursday night. It will be a terrific opportunity to see players who have been linked with summer transfers to United face off.

While Fiorentina would offer Amrabat to West Ham for a lower price, the Hammers are anticipated to demand huge money for their captain.

Only time will tell if the price disparity between the two internationals accurately reflects their varying skill levels.
