United told to pick Oshimen over Kane as Newcastle United shows interest in James Maddison

This summer, Newcastle United may have competition from Manchester United for the playmaker James Maddison of Leicester City since Manchester United has also been linked to him.

Maddison is one of the players Erik ten Hag is examining as a younger replacement for Christian Eriksen since the Red Devils could use some midfield reinforcement this summer, according to ESPN.

According to Ben Jacobs in his exclusive CaughtOffside column yesterday, Maddison is Newcastle's top target this summer. He will undoubtedly have to leave Leicester after a challenging season that could still result in relegation.

Although Newcastle appears to be an exciting project as well, United might be a nice alternative for Maddison given they are a household name and are moving in the right direction under Ten Hag's leadership.

This season, Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job with the Magpies, and it's possible that only one of these teams ends up making it into the Champions League.

The 26-year-old could do better to join the team that has made him their main target rather than heading to United as their third or fourth choice option, however it's also important to note that this might make Maddison's decision easier.

Andy Cole picks Victor Oshimen over Harry Kane

Andy Cole, a former player for Manchester United, has advised his old team to recruit SSC Napoli striker Victor Osimhen rather than Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Harry Kane.

During the forthcoming Transfer window, it is anticipated that the English football superpower will add a striker of the highest caliber to its attacking group.

Cole outlined why United should recruit Nigerian international Osimhen, who was crucial in helping Napoli win the Italian Serie A championship in 2022–23.

Harry Kane is 30 years old next season and Victor Osimhen is currently 24 years old and he’s already done a lot at his age too,” Cole said on All Nigeria Soccer.

“Italian football is difficult but there will be no doubts that he can adapt to the Premier League. If Manchester United want to pay £100m for a 24-year-old or a 30-year-old, you have to look at it in the long term.

“Look at Manchester City, they did not have instant success and look at them now. The players Pep Guardiola brought in were always young and he could still sell them for a decent price if he needed to,” he continued.

“That’s what I think Manchester United should do because they have been caught too many times bringing in players for ridiculous fees and on ridiculous wages who have run down their contracts, I don’t think they can afford to be caught in that position again.”

Dimitar Berbatov, a former Manchester United's striker as well deoved into the Harry Kane and Victor Oshimen's debate, he concurred with Andy Cole's suggestions however, he pinpointed that the Red Devils could as well secure the services of Brentford Ivan Toney.

When asked who striker United should sign, Berbatov responded that a number nine was the clear transfer priority. He argued in favor of Osimhen because the Napoli forward is a younger option and he thinks Kane will stay at Spurs.

"I still believe that Victor Osimhen is the man that Manchester United should be chasing," Berbatov told BetFred.

"He has the speed and the capability of scoring goals that Manchester United need in front of goal, so he’s my number one choice."

"Ivan Toney has had a great season, but I don’t know if he can adapt to the way that Manchester United play football under Erik ten Hag, so that’s why I believe Victor Osimhen should be the priority.

"We don’t know who else Manchester United are going to chase in the transfer market, but they certainly need a player that’s capable of scoring many, many goals.," he stated.

"I believe Harry Kane is going to stay at Tottenham as I don’t believe he will want to tarnish his reputation and legacy at Spurs. There are young players out there who can pledge their future to Manchester United and importantly, bring goals to the table."

This season, Osimhen has scored 28 goals in 36 games for Napoli in all competitions, compared to Kane's 29 goals in 47 games for Tottenham.
