Pep Guardiola issues worrying Injury updates about City trio as United gets major boost before FA Cup final

Before crucial matches against Manchester United and Inter Milan, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola gave an unsettling report on the health of Jack Grealish and Ruben Dias.

The two were among a number of players who did not play in Manchester City's sad 1-0 loss to Brentford on Sunday afternoon in West London, ending Pep Guardiola's team's Premier League campaign in defeat.

With a late goal from Ethan Pinnock, the Bees became the first Premier League team to defeat Manchester City twice this year, snapping City's record 25-game winning streak.

The Premier League winners concluded the season with 89 points, five points ahead of Arsenal, and the 1-0 setback was the Blues' first on the final day of the season in more than ten years.

For Sunday's game against Brentford, Pep Guardiola made a number of substitutions, including Erling Haaland, Ilkay Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva.

The matchday squad was without Ruben Dias, Jack Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne. Dias and Grealish have missed both games since last weekend's 1-0 victory against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

In an effort to win the treble for the first time since 1999, City will play in the FA Cup Final against Manchester United in less than a week and the Champions League Final soon after.

Before these finals, Guardiola gave an unsettling update on the health of Dias and Grealish by admitting that both had missed more than a week of first-team practice.

"Ruben [Dias] didn’t train 10 days, [Jack] Grealish neither,” revealed the City manager post-match.

“After Brighton, Kevin [De Bruyne] felt the same feelings as before, a few weeks ago. They couldn’t play a few games. It’s not a big issue. I think they will be ready [for Wembley].”

Meanwhile, An injury update regarding the condition of Manchester United winger Antony has been released by Erik ten Hag.

The matchday squad for Manchester United's game against Fulham did not include Antony, who was stretchered off against Chelsea on Thursday night.

The FA Cup final is scheduled for next Saturday, so Antony has a tight window to get fit.

The Brazilian winger has received good news from manager Erik ten Hag. The manager has hinted that Antony might be involved in his plans for Wembley.

"We’ve all seen how he came off and it didn’t look great but the first assessment is not too bad, there is a good opportunity he is available for the cup final next week.”

He separately told BBC Sport: “He probably will be available for the cup final next week.”

Despite Ten Hag's remarks, Antony was seen riding crutches when he arrived to Old Trafford. This may have been done as a precaution after being told not to put any weight on his ankle.

The first FA Cup Final between the two regional rivals in the competition's history will take place on Saturday at Wembley Stadium between the Blues and Manchester United.

In October, City defeated United 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium, but in the rematch in January, they lost 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Next weekend, Manchester City will try to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2019, while United will try to win both domestic cup competitions after taking home the League Cup in February.
