Declan Rice, a priority signing for Chelsea, is expected to choose Arsenal, Manchester United, or another Premier League opponent instead of them, putting them in an impossible situation. Rice, a representative of England, has 14 months left on his contract with his alma mater West Ham and is destined to be traded this year.
West Ham advanced to the semifinals of the Europa League last year, but the club is currently in a relegation fight, and Mount plans to leave this summer. The more than 200-time West Ham player from England has already stated his wish to leave the club in order to play in the Champions League.
"One hundred per cent I want to play in the Champions League,” he said. “For the last two or three years I’ve been saying that. I’ve been playing consistently well for my club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing. I see my friends here who are playing Champions League and for big trophies."
“You only get one career and at the end you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in.” After a disappointing season Chelsea are without European football next season after crashing out of this season's competition after an 4-0 aggregate defeat over two legs by Real Madrid."
This summer, Mauricio Pochettino is the front-runner to take over as Chelsea manager, and a fresh transfer strategy is expected to be followed at Stamford Bridge. In order to establish a culture at the club, Pochettino, according to The Times, wants to concentrate on fostering indigenous players.
Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, is trying to limit his expenditure this summer, although Rice may be one of the five players they are interested in signing. However, given that Chelsea won't play in the Champions League in 2019, they now face the terrifying possibility that Rice will choose a Premier League rival instead of them.
The English midfielder is at the top of Mikel Arteta's transfer wish list for Arsenal, which would allow Rice to remain in London while pursuing his desire to win championships. Liverpool, who added the English midfielder to their shortlist of summer objectives, might possibly join the bidding war for him.
Rice may not be sold for a low price; West Ham rated the midfielder at close to £100 million, which may be too much for most Premier League clubs to pay. As they look to strengthen their midfield this summer, Manchester City and Manchester United might also enter the competition for his services.
