David De Gea happy with Golden Glove win but United already sorting out his replacement

After receiving the Golden Glove award for the Premier League, David de Gea stated that he is proud of his accomplishments for Manchester United this season.

De Gea won the Golden Glove award despite having a challenging few weeks due to errors against Sevilla and West Ham, which led to increased examination of his position as the No. 1 goalkeeper.

Allison of Liverpool had 14 clean sheets, while Nick Pope of Newcastle has 13, therefore De Gea easily earned the accolade.

The 32-year-old discussed his Golden Glove triumph and his season in a post-Bournemouth victory interview with MUTV. "It means myself and the team did really well," De Gea said when asked what the award meant. "Especially in the defensive side, we have been very solid the whole season and I think we played really good the whole season."

"I've helped the team as much as I can, keeping some good clean sheets and you know when you keep clean sheets, we are closer to winning games and today, we keep another one, a big one and a massive three points."

"We are closer to finishing in the top four and that's very good for us. I think it's been a great season for me, some very good teams in the league, some very good goalkeepers and it's great. I try always my best to help the team."

"I'll put it in a proper place, with the other awards that I have and it's great, to be honest, to win another golden glove."

With his place as first choice goalkeeper under the microscope, in the next summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive interview with GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United may "explore the market" to add a backup goalkeeper to David De Gea's roster at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag's options will be improved by the Red Devils during the forthcoming transfer window.

De Gea will reportedly have the option to extend his current £375,000 per week deal, which expires at the end of the current campaign, at Old Trafford. The Spaniard will reportedly have to accept a hefty pay cut and give up his position as the Red Devils' assured first-choice goalkeeper.

Earlier this month, journalist Steve Bates disclosed in his GIVEMESPORT column that United has three goalkeepers on its shortlist for long-term replacements of De Gea.

Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia, Diogo Costa of Porto, and David Raya of Brentford are all on the list as the Red Devils weigh their choices.

De Gea will probably sign a new contract at Old Trafford, according to journalist Dean Jones, who recently spoke to GIVEMESPORT.

And Romano concurs with this assessment, though he cautions that the 32-year-old may not be a lock to start the 2023–24 season.

After implying that a deal for a new contract for de Gea was about to be reached, Romano exclusively disclosed to GIVEMESPORT that a backup choice is being taken into consideration.

"It means that, of course, David de Gea will stay. But, from what I understand, the idea of Manchester United is to explore the market for a back-up goalkeeper who can create some competition."

"It's no guarantee that de Gea will always be the starter next season."

De Gea has had another strong season at United after making 55 appearances and recording 25 clean sheets. He also contributed to the Red Devils' 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

The 45-cap Spain international, though, came under fire after a mistake in United's humiliating 5-2 overall Europa League quarterfinal loss to Sevilla last month.

Given that the £17 million acquisition is already past the age of 30, United's management may think again about his future as they try to create a team in the vein of Ten Hag.

But for now, there is a good chance that De Gea will agree to a new deal at Old Trafford, indicating that the Dutchman still has faith in the seasoned captain at the back.

However, Raya, who is 27 years old, is destined to leave them in the summer because he only has a year left on his west London deal.

As the goalkeeper looks for a new challenge, Manchester United is one of the clubs who have been extensively connected with a move for him. According to Frank, Brentford is willing to sanction this move as long as certain conditions are met.

After their 3-1 victory over Tottenham, he commented on the shot-stopper, saying: "We know the rumors about Raya not being here next season, but right now he is here."

"You all know the price – £40m – and absolutely it’s realistic.

“I think it is too much, in general, the money that is paid in football. But in the current market and at his level, he has been at least a top-four keeper in the Premier League this season."

“If you look at those players, in such a crucial position, then I am not in doubt.”
