Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has reacted to Manchester United's quarterfinal draw, and he claimed he is expecting a tough clash with the Spanish side.
The 53-year-old, who has guided his side to victories against La Liga outfits in this campaign's UEFA Europa League tournament, losing only once in six meetings in competitive games against La Liga outfits, alleged that he is expecting a tough encounter with Sevilla, citing that they have experience playing in the tournament.
"So we go back to Sevilla," Erik Ten Hag stated during his press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the Red Devils' weekend clash with Fulham in the quarterfinals of the Emirates FA Cup.
"As you say, they have a very good record." We have to be aware of it. So it's going to be tough because they are really experienced in the Europa League, having won it so many times. "I don’t know their team now in detail, so I have to focus on that."
However, the tie against Sevilla will be played on the 13th and 20th of April, which is after the international break and also after Sunday's Emirates Cup quarterfinal tie against Premier League side Fulham. Erik Ten Hag has stressed he is focused on the Sunday fixture, as research about Sevilla club details can be carried out later.
"But for me," he continued. "The most important [game] is Fulham, and I don't look forward to Seville because first we have an international break, and then we have three Premier League games, so there is much time to focus on that."
"But, definitely, I think all the opponents who come to this stage of the Europa League are strong." You have to play your best football if you want to go through. "It's definitely the case if you face Seville," he explained.
Erik Ten Hag as well acknowledged that his side have learned and changed their mentality after coveting the Carabao Cup in February, while stressing another visit to Wembley is the new inspiration in the team's dressing room.
“I think we have to set our culture, a winning culture. We are Manchester United; we have to win all the games, compete in all the leagues, and win all the leagues. So that has to be the mentality. It's not that you win all the leagues. "The mentality is that when you go into a game, you have to win the game," he explained.
"Of course it is a huge motivation to go to Wembley. We all really enjoyed Wembley, and we really enjoyed winning a trophy, so it has to be the fuel for the next one. [We have to] get pushed by that idea. "That has to bring extra energy to beat Fulham," he alleged.
