Casemiro's possible Ibrahim Sangare replacement confirms United interest but Erik Ten Hag is facing a bigger problem

Ibrahim Sangare, PSV Eindhoven mid fielder, has acknowledged a £33 million release clause in his contract amid interest from Manchester United, the team of Erik ten Hag.

Since taking over at Old Trafford, the former Ajax manager has utilized his Eredivisie connections fairly admirably, with Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia playing significant parts in United's comeback.

Now that Sangare, Orkun Kokcu, Jurrien Timber, Santiago Gimenez, Taylor Booth, and others have been linked to United ahead of the summer transfer window, don't be shocked to see them dive right into a well-known market as the second phase of the Ten Hag renovation begins.

According to 90Min, Sangare was scouted by the Red Devils last month. The strong, 6'3" Ivorian defensive midfielder might serve as a long-term backup or replacement for the superb but aging Casemiro at Old Trafford. Many fans of Manchester United might mention Moises Caicedo of Brighton first. However, Sangare makes up for his lack of a Premier League track record with his affordability.

When Arsenal approached Brighton in January, they requested £90 million for Caicedo. However, Sangare would only cost a third of that amount.

“I think that clause provides clarity for everyone, both for me and the club,” Sangare tells Voetbal International, confirming reports that his has a £33 million release clause in his PSV contract."

“If that were to be the sale price sometime in the future, I think everyone would be very happy."

Sangare, who declined offers from Everton and Southampton in favor of PSV in 2021, assisted Ruud van Nistelrooy's PSV in defeating Ajax on Saturday in the Dutch Cup final.

The 25-year-old is prepared to join one of the Premier League's true heavy hitters, according to PSV veteran Aad de Mos. Sangare acknowledges that he will consider game time when deciding on his future move, but the idea of fighting for a position with perhaps the best defensive midfielder in the world may be cause for anxiety.

“It is important when making a choice that I can progress. I especially want a good perspective on playing time, if I were to leave PSV,” Sangare adds. “Only if you play will you continue to develop yourself."

“Of course, it is nice to play in the Premier League or perhaps another major competition. But it is now about PSV and performing here.”

Erik Ten Hag is facing De Gea's delimma at Old Trafford

Journalist Dean Jones predicts that Manchester United will find it "really difficult" to decide whether to retain goalkeeper David De Gea this summer.

According to 90min, De Gea's new deal with Manchester United, which would pay him less than his current weekly salary of £375,000, is about to be finalized.

According to the report, De Gea has an automatic one-year extension that could have been activated under his current terms at Old Trafford, preventing him from leaving the Red Devils for free in the summer. However, De Gea has decided to accept a significant pay cut to extend his stay at the club.

However, according to Sportske Jutarnji and The Daily Mail, Manchester United is interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic and is looking to activate his £8.9 million release clause. If this is the case, De Gea may face competition for the starting position in goal if the Croatian joins.

Intriguingly, if the Croatian international moves to Old Trafford, he would become the first player from his country to play for Manchester United.

Journalist, Dean Jones believes that Manchester United will need to seriously consider De Gea's future over the next months when speaking to Football FanCast about the player.

"It's really difficult to get that right; it's really difficult to know that you're making a decision to axe a goalkeeper that's been there for so long and has been one of the best goalkeepers in the game," Dean Jones explained.

"You're going to replace them, but you really have got to get that right. It's a big decision, but we've got to remember that Man United have been making progress in talks with De Gea."

However, it appears that the plan may be to keep De Gea and add some serious competition to the ranks, which may turn out to be an intelligent solution and would please the Manchester United fan base. It will undoubtedly be a difficult decision for Ten Hag to make.

According to Transfermarkt, De Gea has played 51 times for the Red Devils in all competitions in 2022–23, maintaining 23 clean sheets.

Despite this, he has allowed 55 goals this season and occasionally dealt with uncertainty, which has led some to question his position as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Moving forward, Ten Hag may have made a brilliant decision by giving De Gea a new contract and adding a player of exceptional caliber to challenge him.

And it will be interesting to see how the seasoned Spaniard handles some tough competition after Martin Dubravka, for example, failed to deliver that early in the campaign.
