Academy player tipped to replace David De Gea amid Everton Jordan Pickford's link

Jordan Pickford of Everton has been connected to a transfer to Manchester United.

Although Erik ten Hag is apparently looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer, David de Gea, who is poised to sign a new contract with Manchester United, could be replaced by another goalkeeper by the start of the next season.

De Gea's shortcomings in terms of ball distribution, handling crosses, and coming off his line have come under scrutiny.

These concerns grew after a subpar performance that led to United's Europa League elimination in Sevilla and again in the 1-0 loss to West Ham on Sunday.

To fight for the position of No. 1, United has been linked with a variety of goalkeepers. David Raya, Yann Sommer, and Bart Verbruggen are a few of them.

Despite the fact that Jordan Pickford, 29, recently signed a new contract at Goodison Park, a recent report from the Daily Star indicates that Ten Hag has now turned his focus to the Everton goalkeeper.

In terms of Pickford's future, Everton's exit from the Premier League may be a dramatic twist. Currently, the Toffees sit two points above the bottom three and could play in the Championship next campaign.

Man United tipped to promote

It goes without saying that Manchester United needs to recruit a top striker, but any sane supporter will also point out that finding a new goalkeeper is equally crucial.

David de Gea, United's starting goalkeeper, has recently committed a number of errors, which can be linked to both the team's recent loss to West Ham and its exit from the Europa League.

The Spaniard has drawn criticism for his inability to create sweeping movements, command his space, and pass out from the back, but this season, his shot-stopping skills have also come under scrutiny.

Erik ten Hag has publicly backed his No. 1 player despite his inconsistent performances, and United and the Spain international are close to reaching a contract extension.

Ten Hag, primarily because of financial limitations, has declined to provide assurances regarding his No. 1 status and is open to hiring a low-cost replacement this summer.

The Red Devils are interested in Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, as The Peoples Person recently reported, but according to 90min, an internal option may become available. The Red Devils are interested in Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, as The Peoples Person recently reported, but according to 90min, an internal option may become available.

Sources have told 90min the 22-year-old is under consideration for a place in the first-team next season after emerging as one of the best young keepers in Europe.

“90min understands United have been keeping close tabs on Kovar, particularly in recent months, and the reports on his progress have been glowing.”

Statistics support this statement. The United loanee has been a major factor in the comeback of the Czech giants, who are on the verge of winning their first championship in nine years.

In all competitions, Matej Kovar has made a total of 28 appearances and has 10 shutouts. Additionally, Sparta Prague now have the second-best defensive record.

The United staff believes the Czech goalkeeper can challenge De Gea all season long and, given the situation, would be the best choice.

Matej Kovar moved from FC Slovacko to United back in 2018. He was a member of the matchday squad under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even though he has never featured for the first team.

Before a productive short-term adventure with Sparta Prague, he had successful loan periods at Swindon and Burton.
