Man United sets £50 million price tag for Newcastle United target, Scott McTominay

If Newcastle United wants to recruit Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United, they will have to fork over at least £50 million. According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag's team wants to keep the Scotland international and won't be coerced into letting him go for a bargain.

Newcastle has long been mentioned in connection with Scott McTominay. The Sun stated that the 26-year-old was a target for the Magpies during the January transfer window.

Since the beginning of the January transfer window, Newcastle United has shown a strong interest in Scott McTominay, but Manchester United may have put a price on him.

The Daily Star reports that the Red Devils have put a £50 million price tag on their academy graduate.

The Scotland international is well-known to have admirers, including Eddie Howe, who is rumored to be interested in signing McTominay this summer.

The player's Premier League experience and physicality would make him a great addition at St James' Park, where the Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcement in the middle of the field.

Scott McTominay has been on a roll lately, scoring five goals in his previous five games, including the first goal in yesterday's 2-0 victory over Everton for the Red Devils.

However, Casemiro is expected to resume playing after serving his ban, and Christian Eriksen is expected to recover from a long-term injury, so McTominay is probably going to fall back in line.

If United signs another midfielder as anticipated, his problems with playing time will only get worse the next season.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been solid for United this season, but Erik ten Hag, who is trying to mold the team in his image, is thought to desire players more in line with his preferred style.

Scott McTominay of Manchester United has acknowledged that Erik ten Hag had emphasized the value of "bouncing back" against Brentford.

Ten Hag implored his team to bounce back from Sunday's loss to Newcastle in his pre-game press conference, and they looked the superior team against Brentford from the opening whistle, taking the initiative and testing the London club.

"That's what the message was: to bounce back," McTominay told MUTV. "I thought the play in the first half was pretty good and we controlled the game really well. In the second half, we lacked a little bit of composure in the final third."

"I thought we really fought hard, they're a really tough team to play against. For us, it's fighting and digging in, there's a game every three days for the foreseeable future toward the end of the season and it's a squad game."

"We've got some good players coming back and that's important. Fingers crossed we get to all the finals and that's something the manager has reiterated to us, that it's a squad game and hopefully we'll win three more trophies."

"You never know [top four race], that's football, there are plenty of games left to play and we just need to be there."

A deal for McTominay could make sense for all sides in the manager's quest of a playmaking midfielder—and, of course, a marquee center striker.

Ten Hag will need money to reinvest in his team, so if United can fetch £50 million for their aggressive midfielder, it will go a long way toward assisting in bringing in top targets.

The question of whether Newcastle will agree to pay that amount is still open.

While other sources have claimed that McTominay would just be a squad player on Tyneside, the Daily Star contends that Howe would view the Scot as a crucial starter.
