Man United in pole position to sign £133 million striker but still have several options available

According to a recent Football Insider report, Manchester United is currently in the lead in the fight to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who might cost at least £133 million this summer.

Now that his current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024, it has been rumoured that Manchester United intends to make a bid for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

The Red Devils are still interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford, but they are hesitant to make a move while the player is still under investigation for gambling since, if found guilty, he might be subject to a protracted suspension from football.

Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is another forward on Erik ten Hag's radar. United is rumored to have a real interest in the player, however they will have to outbid Real Madrid for his services.

Football Insider reports that Man United are now in the lead to sign Osimhen after receiving a major boost in their pursuit of the striker from the recent revelation that Chelsea may be forced to withdraw from the competition.

The Blues may not be able to pay Napoli's nine-figure asking price since they are fighting to stay within Financial Fair Play restrictions.

As the manager is anxious to buy a headline striker, the Nigerian is at the top of Ten Hag's shopping list. United are currently the front-runners in the Premier League, but they are up against stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who are preparing a hefty £133 million bid.

Given that Kane has shown himself over a number of seasons at Premier League level, he would be a reasonably low-risk addition, but Osimhen has never played in England and may need some time to adjust.

However, the Napoli star, who is only 24 years old, is five years younger than the England captain, which means he will probably be competing at the highest level for a far longer period of time and is already beginning to enter his prime.

The Nigerian international has 26 goals this season in all competitions, leading his team's push for the Serie A championship with 21 goals in the league, six more than any other player in the Italian top division.

The forward from Lagos, who has been dubbed a "superstar" by the media, would be a tremendous addition to Man United, and it's great to hear that they are currently in the lead to sign him.

What other striker options are available to Man United

Man United's number one objective for the summer is to sign a center-forward of the highest caliber. Since the World Cup, Marcus Rashford has been nothing short of amazing, but once the new face arrives, it's anticipated that he will switch back to a left flank position.

Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are currently Ten Hag's only available direct strikers. Weghorst hasn't accomplished enough to merit a transfer, and Martial may have been put up for sale.

The seasoned Dutchman might be on his way back to Besiktas, where he was on loan for the first half of the season. In conversations with the representatives of the Turkish side, Weghorst reportedly gave his approval for returning.

Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen have reached to the top of Ten Hag's shortlist as candidates to lead the line at Old Trafford next season.

Teamtalk asserts that Napoli and Tottenham do not truly want to part with their prized strikers. Many fallback strategies are reported to be on Ten Hag's radar in the event that both players manage to evade them.

Tottenham's chairman Daniel Levy's recent comments on Harry Kane's future at the club proves Teamtalk's claim right.

“He can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs."

“But being a legend is also important. The fact that he’s top scorer of Tottenham Hotspur – he’s making history.

“I hope one day that there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.”

Rasmus Hojlund, an Atalanta hitman, has joined the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Goncalo Ramos, and Randal Kolo Muani in United's crosshairs.

United reportedly issued a formal "letter of interest" on Hojlund, according to the Danish publication BT. United has also been mentioned by The Manchester Evening News as a potential buyer if Atalanta sells this summer.

The Serie A team would want to keep a player who the MEN refers to as the "new Erling Haaland." During the most recent international break, Hojlund made news when he scored five goals in two games for Denmark.

Hojlund is maturing quickly for someone who is only 20 years old. Hojlund, though, might soon take his talents somewhere else, according to Gian Piero Gasperini, the manager of Atalanta.

Via the MEN, Gasperini admitted it would be “impossible” for Atalanta to hold out if “huge” bids for Hojlund are tabled this summer.

In effect, any clubs hoping to sign Hojlund now know they can succeed – so long as they stump up the cash, of course.

“I haven’t seen so many strikers as good as Hojlund at 20,” said Gasperini. “He can improve a lot, he’s great.

“Top European clubs are always attentive to this kind of top talents. There could be some huge bids for him that would be impossible to reject for us.”

In a recent article about Hojlund's future, the Daily Mail quoted a £60m valuation as an indication of the size of the required proposal.

Not just United have been impressed with Hojlund's play this season. Real Madrid is an additional option, although Hojlund's chances of moving to the Bernabeu are slim because Karim Benzema is said to have recently committed to a one-year deal.

Other teams cited by BT that Hojlund was supported by include Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich in addition to Manchester United.

Man Utd can completely dominate all of those other teams in the market, only from a financial standpoint. Financial Fair Play restrictions will in the future restrict Chelsea's ability to spend due to their massive £550 million+ expenditure over the last two transfer windows.
