La Liga giants joins race for Man United's target and Brentford goalkeeper David Daya

According to reports, major La Liga clubs are interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, which could deal Manchester United a big transfer blow.

Raya has been mentioned as a potential replacement for David de Gea at Old Trafford, as the veteran United goalkeeper's deal is set to expire this summer.

The Bees goalkeeper may leave this summer after already turning down new contract offers from his present team.

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, said during a press conference in February about Raya: "I believe if he turns it down twice then unfortunately that's a signal. We made two excellent proposals, but that's okay; we live in a free world. No one can be forced by us."

"I hope he will stay forever but it looks like it could be difficult with the contract situation. He must be [worth] at least £40m plus. If he had three years [left on his contract] it would be £70m."

Raya's current contract ends in the summer of 2024, which might persuade United to make a move if they decide not to extend De Gea's.

But according to a recent story, they might face fierce rivalry.

The Telegraph claims that a number of unnamed elite La Liga teams are keeping an eye on Raya in preparation for a potential transfer.

The goalkeeper would be moving back to Spain, where he previously played before moving to Blackburn on a scholarship contract in 2012.

He spent two years in the Rovers academy before being promoted to the first squad and holding the position of club captain for two seasons. In 2019, he transferred to Brentford.

If United can outbid La Liga teams to sign Raya, who has made 53 Premier League appearances to date and has received widespread praise for his distribution abilities, Raya could prove to be the perfect addition to Ten Hag's squad.

They already had the rumored opposition of Tottenham, who are purportedly searching for a possible Hugo Lloris replacement.

Manchester United are in advanced negotiations for David De Gea's new contract, the 32 year old has failed to impress with the ball at his feet and it has become a headache for Erik Ten Hag.

The Spaniard has cemented himself as Manchester United's record cleansheet holder and as well amongst the Red Devils top 10 all time appearance list.

David De Gea's current contract expires next summer and Erik Ten Hag is hoping the Spaniard as well as several Manchester United players will follow Luke Shaw's footsteps and put to pen a new deal at Old Trafford.
