Erik Ten Hag to help protect Sir Alex's treble legacy from Man City as Sevilla eyes £38 million United star

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, might be crucial in preserving Sir Alex Ferguson's finest accomplishment.

The greatest football accomplishment of our time was achieved by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999 when he won The Treble.

Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League under Sir Alex's leadership. In 2008 as well, he nearly pulled it off again. Since then, nobody has come close to replicating it. But Manchester City are currently giving Manchester United's faithfuls a little anxiety. Man City under Pep Guardiola are now playing exceptionally well. The rarity of Sir Alex Ferguson's 1999 Triple Crown is in jeopardy.

They own the power to win the Premier League. They have to play the Gunners at The Etihad while behind Arsenal, and many anticipate Mikel Arteta's team to falter.

By defeating Bayern in the first leg of their Champions League matchup last night, City advanced closer to the semifinals. There is still much to be done. But what if the FA Cup was the deciding factor?

Manchester City will face Sheffield United in the other semifinal. They'll probably succeed. A final between Manchester United and Brighton would be created if Manchester United can defeat Brighton.

Even with simply the FA Cup on the line, the match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Wembley would be a massive event. But what if City wins the Premier League and advances to the Champions League final the following week? What then?

Nobody else will be able to stop them. Erik ten Hag's team has the chance to play spoiler by guaranteeing that Sir Alex Ferguson's accomplishments remain an exception.

In Erik ten Hag's debut season, winning the FA Cup and completing a domestic double would be a significant accomplishment. Who knows? With the Europa League involved as well, there may be a cup treble.

But if it prevents City from winning their own Treble, the FA Cup will acquire additional historical significance. This would make a victory for Manchester United truly cause for two celebrations.

Sevilla targets Eric Baily

In the summer, Sevilla is looking to acquire Eric Bailly from Manchester United as the La Liga team searches for a capable center-half. According to Fichajes, Sevilla, a dominant force in La Liga, have made Eric Bailly a target as they look to strengthen their defense. Monchi, the technical director, wants to fix some of the errors from last summer. He could talk to the Ivorian, and Manchester United would probably take a smaller offer.

While at Manchester United, Eric Bailly had the talent to play for some of the top clubs, but he was only able to prove himself there briefly. The player's slide has mostly been caused by ongoing injuries after his €38 million transfer.

Erik ten Hag did not wish to keep the 28-year-old after looking at his prior injury records. He was quickly accepted by Marseille on a loan for one season with a buy-back clause. There is a potential that he returns to Old Trafford and the clause is not triggered given his current season.

The €38 million Manchester United player has only made 14 Ligue 1 appearances since moving to Marseille due to injury issues. The Ivorian was also subject to a hefty suspension of five games. But since his comeback, the defender has primarily played as a substitute.

While his future at Marseille is still up in the air, Manchester United might consider selling if the Ivorian comes back in the summer. Given that he still has one year left on his contract with the Red Devils, they may permit a cheap move.

Around January, a few Spanish teams, including my old team Villarreal, were interested. But today Sevilla is the source of much adulation. After allowing Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde to leave, technical director Monchi does not want to make the same error as last summer.

Along with Alex Telles and Van de Beek, Victor Lindelof is a target for Sevilla. So they are interested in other United players than Bailly. The 28-year-old Ivorian is talented, but his history of injuries may prevent him from making a move.
