Erik Ten Hag tells United to get ready for 'mad' Tottenham as Liverpool fires top four warning

They will arrive. Liverpool is charging down the outside into the top four spots with all guns blazing and is still capable of a convincing victory.

This victory made up for Jurgen Klopp's team's shocking loss here during the previous campaign. In their previous three games, West Ham had scored eleven goals. However, Liverpool are gaining ground quickly in the race for Champions League football.

At the London Stadium, where owner John W. Henry was a visitor, Cody Gakpo countered Lucas Pacqueta's astonishing first-half goal with one of his own.

Joel Matip later scored the game-winning goal in the second half to complete the Reds' comeback. Thiago's late handball prevented the Hammers a clear-cut penalty, so Klopp was also a fortunate captain.

“I thought he just fell on the ball,” he said. “But I can understand that Moyesy sees it completely differently. At the end of the day we controlled the game. It was the best we’d reacted to a setback all season.”

Asked about the top four he added: “I can’t see the race yet. We are not in position for a race. The only thing we can do is win all of our games."

"We play Tottenham from that area and that’s it. If the others win all their games that’s it for us. I don’t think about that. I want us to finish the season as well as possible. At least for the next few weeks I want us to show our real face. Not the nice one then the ugly one.”

Asked about the Liverpool owner’s presence, he added: “We met already last night and we talked.” Henry will have been pleased with what he saw.

Trent Alexander-Arnold now leads all Premier League players in assists this season with seven.

With their next three games being played at home and ALL of their remaining games being fairly winnable, Liverpool has now won three straight games.

Despite being comfortably positioned in the top four, neither Newcastle nor Manchester United will be deluding themselves into thinking that their work is done.

Not now that Liverpool is producing well on the road. Now the game is on. The in-form Hammers deserve praise for fighting till the end.

They had a quick start. Pacqueta scored the game's opening goal after 12 minutes with a fantastic long-range drive, giving him three straight goals.

Trent then provided Gakpo with a long-range shot six minutes later.

With 23 seconds left, Joel Matip then headed the winning goal. David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, had every right to be incensed that his team's attempt at a penalty kick was turned down. What in the world was Neil Swarbrick, a VAR, doing?

Liverpool won't care since they are once again in the flow.

Erik Ten Hag warns Man United about mad Tottenham

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expects to play a "mad" Tottenham on Thursday after Spurs' embarrassing 6-1 loss to Newcastle, but he has underlined that no opponent can be "hungrier" than we are.

Acting head coach Christian Stellini was fired after less than a month in charge following the humiliating loss to the Magpies. The 48-year-old had taken over for Antonio Conte.

Ryan Mason has already been named as Tottenham's interim manager. With two games left to play, United now holds a six-point lead over Spurs for fourth place in the Premier League.

They already won the League Cup this season, but they still have their sights set on a Cup double after beating Brighton in a penalty shootout in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley on Sunday.

However, United have also had to bounce back from some bad performances this year, as Ten Hag noted during a news conference on Wednesday before the game: "We had some, not so often, that we have to bounce back. “Definitely (more than I would like) but it happens with all the great teams, even Real Madrid, eh?"

“It’s obvious they (Tottenham) had a really bad defeat. Of course, then they are mad. That can be fuel for bouncing back. “But it’s about us. An opponent can never be more hungry than we (are), so that is how we have to prepare the game.”

Despite Spurs' issues, England's captain Harry Kane continues to pose a threat. If the 29-year-old striker decides to leave Spurs in search of his first major prize, he will likely face one of the clubs who are supposedly interested in signing him at the end of the season. He has scored 26 goals in all competitions.

It’s quite clear his impact on the game for Spurs,” said Ten Hag. “We have a plan of course for that. The home game we did very well, so for tomorrow we need a very good plan as well. “You have to defend him as a team.”

Ryan Mason demands reaction from Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur lost their weekend tie against fellow top four rivals Newcastle United after just 21 minutes into the encounter. They were 1-0 down after the kick off and 5-0 down by the 21st minutes, they eventually lost 6-1 to a blood sucking Eddie Howe's side.

That saw their hopes of finishing in the top four dashed, but they will only hope Man United and Newcastle United slips with less than 10 games left before the curtains are drawn to bring the current campaign to an end.

But they will yave to start by ensuring the beat Erik Ten Hag's side on Thursday night at home, losing will see them trail the Red Devils by 9 points and also lose their place to fifth place Aston Villa.

This they have to get done but that doesn't in any way ease the pressure mounted on them and caretaker, Ryan Mason appears to have had an insight about this.

On Thursday, when he takes the field in front of more than 60,000 fans, the bulk of them will still be fuming about Sunday's disaster, which saw Spurs trail Newcastle 5-0 after just 21 minutes.

Even though the team promised to pay back the away support at St James' Park, previous home games have seen fans chant for chairman Daniel Levy to be fired. If the team starts poorly against Manchester United, the animosity may grow.

But  Mason said: “(I expect) a reaction, absolutely a reaction.

“Obviously Sunday was disappointing for us and I would hope and expect there’s a reaction from not only the players, but everyone in the building and everyone involved in the club as well.

“I’m pleased (about the reimbursement) because our fans are important for us. We value them and need them.

“I understand that relationship has wavered recently, but there’s no doubt we need them and want them on board, and hopefully Thursday they can feel us.

“I understand that relationship has wavered recently, but there’s no doubt we need them and want them on board, and hopefully Thursday they can feel us.

“We want to get them on board and we want to get them with us. The only way to do that is to put in performances that warrant that.”

Mason suggested that he would start without captain Hugo Lloris, who was forced off against Newcastle due to a hip injury. He also suggested that he might switch back to the 3-4-3 configuration that Antonio Conte primarily employed.

"It's difficult to make significant changes when there are two to three practices before two games," Mason continued.

"But, I would hope and expect towards the end of the season that everyone, not only inside but outside, will see my stamp and our stamp on the group."
